A dramatic pursuit through heavy rain along the Mekong River in Bueng Kan Province ended with the seizure of more than one million methamphetamine pills and injuries to both the suspect and law enforcement officers.

Officers from the Mekong Riverine Unit (MRU), known locally as Nor Ror Chor, stationed in Bueng Kan, in cooperation with border security forces, police, and military units, announced the arrest of a 36-year-old local man, identified only as “Mr. M,” from Ho Kham Subdistrict, Mueang District, Bueng Kan.

Acting on intelligence that a large drug shipment was set to cross the Mekong River from a neighbouring country, authorities lay in wait near Ban Tha Khrai. In the early hours, a suspicious Nissan saloon car, licence plate from Nakhon Phanom, accompanied by a motorcycle, was spotted parked with its lights off near the riverbank. Two men were observed unloading large sacks into the car before it sped away.

Officers gave chase along Highway 212 and signalled the vehicle to stop for inspection. Instead, the driver accelerated and attempted to flee. The pursuit continued until the suspect’s vehicle reached Ban Huai Sam Yot in Pong Pueay Subdistrict, where authorities decided to ram the fleeing car to prevent its escape.

The collision caused both vehicles to veer off the road, resulting in injuries to officers and the suspect, Mr. M. A search of the car revealed three sacks containing a total of 1,006,000 methamphetamine pills.

Commander of the MRU’s Nong Khai Sector, Captain Suchart Udomnak, confirmed the operation’s success, noting the large quantity of seized narcotics and the ongoing investigation to uncover the wider trafficking network behind the attempted smuggling operation.

The suspect is now in custody and will face prosecution under anti-narcotics laws.

How do they have so many times offs?

I mean it's good that something is being done, but there appears to be drug busts almost weekly.
