FBI’s Patel Blames Canada for Fentanyl Crisis, Calls for Northern Crackdown

FBI Director Kash Patel has stirred controversy by accusing Canada of contributing significantly to the fentanyl crisis in the United States, despite statistical evidence showing otherwise. During a recent appearance on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, Patel alleged that foreign adversaries and criminal groups are exploiting the U.S.-Canada border to traffic the deadly drug into American communities.

Patel claimed that hostile nations like China and Russia are colluding with criminal organizations to move fentanyl through the northern border now that the southern frontier, according to him, has been effectively secured under President Donald Trump’s policies. “So, where’s all the fentanyl and trafficking coming from still? ... Where are all the narco-traffickers going to keep bringing this stuff into the country? The Northern Border,” Patel said during the Sunday interview.

In a pointed message to the United States' northern neighbor, Patel added, “Who has to get to stepping? Canada. They’re making [fentanyl] up there and shipping it down here.” His remarks suggested that Canada is not fulfilling its responsibilities in stopping the cross-border flow of the powerful opioid.

Patel called on Canadian authorities to tighten border enforcement and crack down on drug production and trafficking, asserting that the country must do more to protect the region from the growing crisis. He also dismissed concerns surrounding President Trump’s repeated, controversial notion that Canada could become the 51st state. “I don’t care about getting into this debate of making someone the 51st state or not,” Patel stated. “They are our partner in the north, and say what you want about Mexico, but they helped us seal the Southern Border.”

These comments come amid a shift in tone from Washington, which has become more confrontational toward Canada—traditionally one of America’s closest allies. While Patel’s accusations drew attention, they contradict official data: less than 1 percent of all fentanyl seizures occur at the northern border, with the vast majority of the illicit drug entering the U.S. through southern routes, particularly at legal ports of entry.

Still, Patel’s remarks reflect a growing narrative that blames foreign sources and international cooperation failures for America’s ongoing drug epidemic. His assertions may fuel further political pressure on Canada to take a more aggressive stance against transnational drug trafficking, even as Canadian and U.S. officials continue to work together on law enforcement and intelligence sharing.

As the U.S. grapples with a worsening opioid crisis, the debate over who bears responsibility for the influx of fentanyl is likely to intensify. Patel’s statements signal a desire by some American officials to shift accountability across borders, raising questions about how this rhetoric will affect diplomatic relations and joint efforts in combating the fentanyl epidemic.

It would seem it was the job of the USA to keep it from crossing the border into the US? The USA want go take responsibility for all the guns smuggled into Mexico?

As if they hadn't already pissed off Canada enough. He gets his info from the people he meets up with at all the sporting events he attends instead of doing his actual job.

It will be interesting to see how the next 3.5 years go. If the US isn't attacked and brought to her knees due to the intense ineptitude of this administration, maybe it will prove gubmint actually isn't as necessary as we all thought.

Obviously he does have access to the information. He clearly said since the southern border has been closed.

Closed but the drugs still keeping coming in from the southern border. To sweep this under the carpet, details of drug news are denied when you try to click the link. Wonder which department is shutting the news from the public,

The reason that fentanyl is coming across any border is because there is a demand for it.  I don't know the reason, but America seems to have a disproportionately large number of drug addicts.  That's neither the fault of Canada nor Mexico.  Clearly something is seriously wrong with the way that the USA deals with its drug problem.  However, it's easier to blame Canada than to sort things out.

Big cuts on the Health Services especially substance abuse programs and Medicare will aggravate the drug problem.

Patel is just an absolute clown and an absolute yes man for Trump. You must remember by Trump claiming a state of emergency over fentanyl coming over the border from Mexico and Canada was the only way he could cancel the fantastic trade deals that he himself negotiated and lavished praise on himself for negotiating.

Otherwise he would have had to go and seek approval from congress.

What is being swept under the carpet?

The war on drugs has been on going for decades, its never going to stop totally.

The stats showing 1% coming through the north were clearly taken before Trump admins focus on the southern border

How come nobody think about that before?

So strange, preventive politics like proper schools and education, proper Healthcare and give their citizens something to live for? 8 hours work a day and pay you actuallycan live on, 5 weeks holiday,

Yeah, and while you're at it do something to stop the flow of guys named Ryan coming to Hollywood and taking all the acting jobs.

A lot of Canadians in US talk media and television, too, illegal aliens all who no doubt carried drugs across the border, the kind of drugs that will make Americans stupid, and . . . . nevermind.

This Patel guy is just making noise to keep the boss happy, make it look like he's actually working.

Have you tried to click on any link to drug smuggling along the Southern border and denied access? Lots of covering up for the failures to curtail the in flow of drugs. Blaming others is much more easier and convenient. Trump and his secretaries are full of this.
