Tommy Robinson charged with harassment

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been charged with harassment causing fear of violence against two men in August last year, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

"We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, 42, with harassment causing fear of violence against two men," a CPS spokesperson said.

Apparently this latest court action was prompted after he was doxed by 2 Daily Mail reporters putting his safety at risk, so he turned the tables, returning the gesture.

I watched the film he made.  It's actually a documentary and the videos and documents produced in that film confirm that he did not make false accusations against the Syrian 'bullying yob'.  His accusations are true but don't really fit the pro-Islam narrative of many politicians in the UK nowadays.....

You don't get to judge what's legal or illegal. That's why we have the judiciary. Apparently he repeated claims that were proven in court to be libelous. If you have evidence to the contrary rather than just an opinion I'm sure they'd be happy review it. He himself pleaded guilty to the charge and I believe him.

Civic duty is defined in part as obeying the law and that which is legally mandated.  If you disagree with the law you campaign to get it changed, you can't just disobey it without consequence.

Your civil duty is to obey the law, pay taxes, refrain from violence and generally do all that is required in a polite, civil society to live together.  Civil disobedience usually, but not always, involves breaking the law. They're broadly opposites.  

 

Civil disobedience sometimes has its place but it must be done in the correct way. That's where Robinson had failed.

Rosa Parks seemed to disagree.  Civil disobedience is just one component of civic duty.  I doubt her objective was to sit in the nice seats regardless of the consequences she knew she'd incur for breaking an unjust law.  She knew she was powerless to change the law using legal means, so she took it on herself to fight the law by violating it.  She took that as her civic duty.

 

Change the name from Parks to Robinson, and change the circumstances a little, and the stories are the same story.  They both violated what they saw as unjust laws.

The truth is inconvenient you mean.  I don't think you understand how dangerous it is to continuously lock people up for saying things that the state doesn't like relying on a corrupt judiciary to help them do so.  History is littered with fascist states doing exactly this and sadly it is also filled with useful idiots cheering from the sidelines when it happens to someone they don't like.   I doubt historically those useful idiots were cheering in the end.  

 

The next thing he is being charged with is for allegedly doxxing 2 journalists in response to them doxxing him.   It's beyond ridiculous now.   He needs to claim asylum in the USA as it is abundantly clear he is being persecuted for having political views the state does not like.   It's shameful what the UK has become and the UK is no longer in a position to criticize other fascistic states when they persecute their own citizens.

By that measure terrorists are just doing their civic duty. 

 

Maybe she had a moral duty which led to civil disobedience but that's not what civil duty means. 

 

Civil disobedience must be morally justified. Rosa Parkes had that by taking a stand against racism. Robinson doesn't have that by defying a judge and repeating proven libelous remarks.
