Alexis Solia, a British transwoman

There are so many stages in transing or transgendering or transiting or whatever else it may also be called that every time I read the word "transwoman", I am left wondering whether I am reading about a person with a penis or a person with a vagina.

P.S.  Having now read to the end of the news article, I can stop being puzzled in this case. The trans individual in question is still pondering about having gender-assignment surgery.

Alexis Solia, a British transwoman and activist, has announced her plans to leave the UK following a controversial Supreme Court ruling that has intensified her fears for safety. The April decision clarified that "sex" under the Equality Act refers strictly to biological sex, not gender identity, a ruling that has sparked widespread concern within the transgender community.

Solia, who has endured years of harassment and abuse, sees the ruling as a tipping point. "It feels like we’ve been told we’re not welcome anymore," she remarked, expressing her heightened anxiety about venturing outdoors.

The 30-year-old content creator is now preparing to move to Chiang Mai, Thailand, in search of a more inclusive environment. Although Thailand doesn’t provide full legal recognition for trans identities, Solia hopes it offers a respite from the discriminatory climate in the UK and access to gender-affirming care.

In the UK, Solia has faced relentless harassment, recounting experiences of being groped in pubs, misgendered in public, and physically attacked. "It’s almost like a letter saying: ‘You’re not allowed in society anymore,’" she explained, echoing the sentiment that the ruling has exacerbated anti-trans hostility.

Solia criticised prevailing myths about the threat transwomen supposedly pose in female spaces, calling them "ridiculous." She argued that being forced to use men’s facilities presents significant dangers, given the hormonal treatments many trans individuals undergo.

The rise in transphobia, according to Solia, is intertwined with broader misogyny, highlighting a culture increasingly intent on controlling women. Data supports these fears, with a National Audit Office report showing a rise in sexual assault rates against women in England and Wales, coupled with increased reports of such crimes.

Prominent figures in the trans community, such as Jane Fae from TransActual, have noted a spike in trans individuals seeking to flee the UK since the court ruling, citing increased violence, stress, and mental health struggles.

Solia is set to attend London Pride before relocating, actively funding her move through a fundraiser that has already amassed nearly half of the £5,000 needed. The generosity of supporters has provided a silver lining amidst the challenges. "Seeing that support brought me to tears," she shared, illustrating the community’s resilience and solidarity.

In Thailand, Alexis aims to reclaim her life free from the "bureaucracy and barriers" she faces in the UK, pursuing hormone therapy and possible surgical interventions in a culture she perceives as more accepting. While acknowledging that no place is perfect, Solia’s primary desire is simply to live safely and freely.

It's crazy that she sees it as being either people are forced to accept them as women and allow male bodies into female spaces, or they're not welcome in society.  Not a single concern for actual women.

Wants to live her life " Free from bureaucracy and barriers " in Thailand . Good luck with that !

I recall an incident a few years back, I was visiting friends in their not cheap condo in Bkk.

Suddenly the folks in the next unit having a serious loud argument / altercation. The Thai man (with wife and kids) who lived in the condo on the others ide of the 'noisy' unit knocked on my friends door and asked if my friend would support telling the lobby he was calling the police and then immediately calling the police. My friend agreed.

Fifteen minutes later w cops arrive, one was a higher rank.  Suddenly there's a mob in the hallway. tuns out there was 8 TVs / gatoeys sleeping / living in the unit next to me friend.

One gatoey was very vocal and very loud and instantly confronted the senior cop and grabbed the cops collar.

Loud vocal gatoey was telling the cop that TVs are special people and they don't have to obey any Thai laws.

Meanwhile the condo manager had called the lawyer for the condo himself a TV, always dressed in a nice suit collar and tie and always very pleasant to talk to (lawyer speaks Thai and English).

Lawyer TV listens for a minute to the 'loud gatoey who is continuing 'we <gatoeys> don't have to obey any Thai laws.'

Lawyer politely engages with the senior police guy and says 'we <gatoeys> don't have to obey any Thai laws.' is obviously not correct and they are subject to the same laws as any other person.'

Then in Thai and English lawyer very politely said to the cop 'this is causing too much disturbance for too many people, can I please request you take them all to your lock up and charge them all with 'disturbing the peace, and if you wish I will give them a serious calm lecture about 'same law for everybody.

Cop agrees, and by now 3 more cops have arrived. Snr cop gives an instruction and in a few seconds the 8 gatoeys living in the next unit plus the actual tenant are in handcuffs and are being force marched out of he building.

TV lawyer speaks quickly to the building manager and says 'I suggest you make a rule, and quickly get the owners committee to endorse, saying that TV can ent but cannot ever have even one more person (any person) sleeping / visiting any unit in the condo'.

Lawyer continues 'whether that's legal needs further discussion but it might create a buffer to get multiple gatoey out of your building.

That'll be gone in a month.  Then what?

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what sort of a visa the trans person will apply for.

At 30 years old, it is unlikely to be a Non-Imm-O visa leading to a retirement extension. That will cost 800,000 thb or over 18,000 GBP, so the Gofundme of 5,000 GBP will be a bit short. Not enough for a marriage extension either plus he/she will need  proof of a genuine marriage. A work visa would be unlikely. A tourist visa will get him/her into the country but is of limited duration anyway.

Then comes the cost of actually living in Thailand.

Another problem may arise if the passport is in his name with his photo, and he/she comes in as a transwoman. Will Immigration allow him/her to enter Thailand anyway?
