The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that one or two tropical cyclones could form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in June. During a climate forum held on May 28, PAGASA weather specialist Joanne Mae Adelino explained that, based on historical data and climatological trends, tropical cyclones in June typically follow one of four possible paths.

According to Adelino, some tropical cyclones may enter PAR and initially move toward the Philippine landmass but then recurve before making landfall, redirecting toward Taiwan or Japan. Others may enter PAR and recurve without making landfall, continuing their trajectory towards Japan.

Adelino added that certain cyclones could make landfall and traverse the southern part of Luzon, eventually heading toward northern Vietnam or Hong Kong. Alternatively, they could pass through the eastern to northern parts of the Visayas before reaching similar destinations.

Should one or two tropical cyclones enter PAR next month, PAGASA is prepared to assign them local names from its official list designated for 2025. The first two names on this list are “Auring” and “Bising.”

Notably, there have been no tropical cyclones entering PAR since the beginning of the year. As the region prepares for potential cyclones, PAGASA continues to monitor weather patterns closely to provide timely updates and safety advisories for affected areas.
