Panic broke out in Pattaya on the evening of 28 May, after a loud crash was heard and large chunks of concrete fell from a high-rise condominium on Pratumnak Hill, injuring a foreign man and damaging several motorbikes parked nearby.

At approximately 18:00, emergency services were alerted to the incident at Unixx South Pattaya, a condominium situated on Pratumnak Road in Pattaya, Chonburi. Videos and images posted online shortly after the event showed broken cement debris scattered around the base of the building and concerned foreign residents reacting to the collapse.

One tourist, identified as Mr Paul Dennis Smith, a 57-year-old Australian national, sustained injuries to his head, right arm and leg after being struck by falling debris. Emergency personnel from Sawang Boriboon Foundation provided first aid at the scene before urgently transporting him to a nearby hospital.

Several parked motorcycles also sustained damage from the falling concrete.

Initial investigations revealed that the debris came from a concrete panel and fittings, attached to the building’s outer wall. City engineers and Pattaya Mayor inspected the site and confirmed that the collapse did not affect the building’s main structure. However, reports suggest that the damaged section had previously been identified in photographs but had not yet been repaired.

Eyewitness Mr Veerapol, 59, who was swimming in the condominium pool at the time, recounted seeing the cement slab plummet to the ground. “Everyone near the pool started running. I got out of the water and ran for my life,” he said.

Police Colonel Anek Srathongyoo, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, arrived at the scene personally and has ordered a thorough investigation. City engineers have also launched a more detailed structural assessment. Early indications suggest the section that collapsed had shown signs of deterioration prior to the incident.

Glad that it wasn't a chunk of the main structure, but still vey much a concern if bits are being later attached to the main structure of buildings which are unsafe.

Just slabs of concrete, very little (or none) QC, workmanship in general is pretty shotty, some just hot boxes.   Being in a hot climate, I'm sure it's way cheaper to build something.   This is why I'll never buy in Thailand.    Just look outside.  Look around you.  Look at the cables dangling in the air, cracks everywhere, water is a killer....

BUT, to rent it's still a great deal!!!!!  Outside of a few cities, it's super cheap and I haven't lived in a building that collapsed.... yet.   My last hotel did sway with the earthquake, that was super crazy.   so, you get what you pay for and much more.....  It's when they try to sell these concrete nightmares for 10 million......lol.  no way.   4 million, nah.   1 million?  nah, because they I have to live there.   if Billy doesn't pay for his condo I'm on the hook.  If Freddy destroys the building, we all pay.   Condos can be nightmares.   nope.

now we must check his insurance.   lol.   he can hire 10 lawyers, 9 will scam him and he will be be broke before he gets to the 10th.  years and years in the system.   welcome, come again!!!!

The management of Unixx South Pattaya condominium has confirmed that the building’s main structure remains completely sound after a large decorative concrete panel detached from the facade and fell onto the car park area, damaging multiple motorcycles and injuring a tourist.

The incident occurred in the early evening of 28 May, when a section of concrete cladding came loose from the exterior of the high-rise located on Pratumnak Road in Pattaya, Bang Lamung district. The heavy panel first struck the sixth-floor swimming pool area before crashing down into the parking zone below.

An Australian tourist, Mr Paul Dennis Smith, 57, sustained injuries to his head, right arm, and right leg. He was quickly transported to hospital by emergency services. Several motorcycles parked in the area were also damaged by falling debris.

In response, the condominium’s senior technician, Mr Setthabut Tantrachin, led a team of reporters to inspect the scene on 29 May. He confirmed that urgent safety measures had already been implemented, including cordoning off hazardous zones and initiating insurance procedures to compensate vehicle owners affected by the incident.

Mr Setthabut stated that other similar cement panels remain attached to the building and will be dismantled as a precaution, in accordance with orders from Pattaya City authorities. Contractors are currently working on plans for a safe removal process, which will begin at the front of the building and move around to the sides and pool area in phases.

He further assured residents that the condominium’s structural integrity is fully intact, supported by annual structural inspections and daily building system checks conducted three times per day. Following a recent minor earthquake felt in Bangkok, the building’s management committee also ordered an immediate structural review by certified engineers. The results of this inspection have been posted publicly around the building to reassure residents.

During the removal process, alternative off-site parking has been arranged for residents at no extra cost, along with a complimentary shuttle service to and from the condominium.

This is where they are selling condos for 65 thousand quid  they are about 25 square metres. I saw them advertised last week. And discussed buying  two next to each other and knocking a wall/ door through to make a 50 square metre place.

I don't know about construction but certainly a lot of Chinese bought places there.
