New Covid Self Tests
Some people are never symptomatic. Will still have positive test. When the test turns positive depends on viral load. May be positive before symptoms or not until after, even a few days after in some cases. Retesting makes sense if there is strong suspicion and if the information is critical (for example if you or a family member are high risk, or if it would affect your behavior). -

Maybe in the UK. Other countries differ. In Australia I quote ' When your partner dies, we need to reassess your income and assets. To stay eligible for Age Pension you need to meet the thresholds as a single person.' You can't generalise. -

Denied Entry
Your experience seems to confirm that Immigration is pretty serious about (what they see as) over-use and/or abuse of the Visa Exemption. They also talked about abandoning the 60 day Visa Exemption and returning it to 30 days. And a room (bunker) full of people also being kicked out. Not very encouraging news. -
