"If you aren't social, you can be lonely in any city"

True, but it doesn't apply to everyone who is not 'social'. I don't looking for social interaction, but I'm a very friendly person if someone approaches me.  But I much prefer my own company and I'm definitely not lonely.

I'm fairly anti social, but I've engaged with strangers many times, and had some great conversation, when O&A.  Not so much locally.

One exceptional afternoon, yakked for a while poolside at Phuket, to an older Iranian, actor, writer, movie producer.  Extremely enlightening, as was around before & after the Shah of Iran got deposed.  Went from very bad to worse.   He does 6 months Iran & 6 months Phuket every year.

Same here @simon43 and to quote a line from an old Kiwi band song, "Truth is I like my own company best" and I find now that I've gotten older, that certainly applies to me.

Remember golden man who spent his days cycling round Pattaya till he went home to U.K., very sad bloke

I remember that guy - all dressed up like he should have been in some sort of carnival parade . What was the story behind this ? Not sure if he was lonely or not - looked quite cheery when I saw him.

One guy wrote ( Harold) (which I cried after reading ) is that he was a 60yo man who lives by himself with no family from Cardiff in the UK and he works Monday to Friday ,comes home at night to a empty house, cooks his dinner watches TV  and repeats it the next day

Weekends he is lonely

He says he can't wait to retire and move to Pattaya so he "doesn't feel lonely"anymore !!!

He will sell his house in Cardiff ,give up his government job early so he can move to Pattaya

Now guys please ...we know in reality the YouTuber is lying , move to Pattaya and You won't be lonely....really ?

Harry is very likely to have a better quality of life in Pattaya.  That seems obvious.

I just watched a YouTube video of a Pattaya YouTuber ( from UK)  who is telling guys that are by themselves in their own country to retire early and move to Pattaya

Then I read the sad comments on his YouTube ,some guys are saying they can't wait to move to Pattaya so they won't be lonely anymore , they're stuck in the UK by jobs etc

The reality is...

..the lonely guys move from the UK or Australia or wherever to Thailand and move into a 21sqm studio by themselves they work out all the "company" costs money ,no real friends, it all costs money and after a certain amount of time ...1 year? 2 years? work out the "lonilesness" is still ther

They find no friends in Pattaya ,they become lonely ,they then have regrets and after 1 year there back in the UK or Australia right

Right !

Yes

ou insulted dozens and dozens of AN members by calling them grandpa, old man, saying we all walked with a cane, or to be careful that we don’t break a hip, etc.  Always unfounded as no one was even hinting at age.  You did that to me at least twice and later, you mentioned in a post that you were 62 years old, which is two decades older than me.

What wrong with being old, or using a cane?

Nothing at all if you are asking me.  I was saying @georgegeorgiahas posted that stuff numerous times and in very insulting and disrespectful manners.  I wouldn't stoop so low ass to disrespect my elders or make blind statements about possible physical handicaps.

Yeah. That story was definitely true for you. You couldn’t even hack it in Pattaya.

You were questioned by strangers for walking around and standing on the sidewalks and streets taking photos of people in hot tubs on their balcony.

You wanted to go fishing on a charter boat, but wanted a discount because you knew no one else would be comfortable talking to you, but you didn’t think it was fair to pay the full price for the boat because you were just one person.

When you first arrived here, you went on huge rants that if taxi drivers don’t use the meter, everyone should not only accept it, but should tip them extra. That’s probably one of the reasons you ran out of money in a couple months and moved back to Australia with your tail between your legs. And you started hugging and making out with the taxi driver.

You moved back to Australia and still came back to post on here that you were back home and working, but all of your coworkers avoided eye contact and seemed put off by your presence.

Several dozens or hundreds of ridiculous music posts with accompanying YouTube videos and asking questions, then answering yourself, then getting upset with your own reply to yourself and then adding more and more misic videos claiming each one was better than the last to the point you were getting belligerent with yourself. The one where you tried to introduce and educate the world to Tina Turner, who you claimed was the most underrated and unknown singer of all time was so insane. Everyone had to tell you she has passed away and then you led yourself down some bizarre rabbit hole and got even weirder than usual.

So, let me see if I got this straight and up to date. You are back in Australia. You’ve been there maybe 6 months or so. You are watching YouTube videos about Pattaya, which was the only city in Thailand you have spent any time in. You rented a 21 sq. meter studio apartment while there for a few months and couldn’t make a single friend, so you your theory is that everyone that moves to Pattaya (or Thailand wherever, I guess), is that they will end up as sad and pathetic as you did.

Is that fair to say?  Why are you even posting on here still?  Go play bingo or something and meet a nice guy your own age.  Get an AI boyfriend or a Gordan Ramsey inflatable love doll or something to keep your mind busy.

People are still creeped out. AseanPTSDNow as it was before.

So I take it you are using the "judicious approach"?

A beautiful word that I discovered recently "judicious" from one of our members

Thankyou for your service Sir and may I quote a saying or would it perhaps be a proverb ?

Oh don't be disgusting please could I ask you to refrain from such sayings especially the spade one, especially when we will mix those sayings together although it's a type of multicultural theme one would perhaps say

Everyone can turn their lives around. I've refashioned myself through a number of tough phases in life.

It's only hopeless when you give up on yourself. At that point why should anyone else care about you?

I've actually thought about starting a similar website/blog/ podcast but I really don't want any more farang here...far less.

Anyone tell you that you seem to have waay to much time on your hands?

This board is about Thailand to lesser extent asean.  Without the perspective of living here the opinions are most topics are simply typical and belong on some stupid board like Reddit.

How much creed I put into someones opinion in Thailand is a mix of how long LIVING here  where in Thailand they live, if they have family, type of visa. I'm also total pro cheap-charlie. Money often distances real and valuable experience to share.

Oh disgusting admitting this

These poor people deserve every cent they earn , I despise Cheap Charlie's especially those who haggle with an elderly lady food cart vendor

Can I kindly just ask you to stop haggling and trying to save every penny and using these poor people, tip them and give them more that's all I ask of you

First, you don't do anything bc you don't live here.

I've been here in East Asia for 35 years. Your assumptions about haggling with some woman selling food off a car are beyond absurd and insulting

At least unlike you I actually do eat food off of a street cart

Next, I don't haggle. I ask a price and if it's not amenable i move on.

Finally, I love the challenge of researching the best deals, quality value, places and paying as little as possible. For me it's part of the grand puzzle of navigating life overseas. For example I bounce from pub to pub to pay happy hour prices but an equal purpose is a change of scenery.

You are a very dull, boring  and bored old man. I think you're two years younger but you seem like your 80 and bet you look it.

If I send you a QR code will you send me money as you seem to have never ending amounts of it judging by your post?

I couldn’t agree more. 👍 I commented on a troll post a few weeks ago and pointed out how different the forum is compared to what it once was and a poster replied to me that nothing has changed.  He had been here less than a month. I was talking about back when it was TV.

You’re right that a ton of this should be posted on social media if anywhere. Chronic posters asking ridiculous personal questions that couldn’t possibly lead to any useable information or value. Do you take your coffee with sugar and cream, how often do you stay up after 11pm, do you prefer cats or dogs, whatever. Lol.

I just don’t  see the point at all…except…to post as much fodder as possible and get on the posters of the week list. Ridiculous.

Your also right about the political soapbox.  It is mostly the same people posting the same stuff over and over, some multiple times per day, just to bicker. Why anyone would want to move to Thailand and spend so much time and energy arguing about American politics is beyond me.  Makes me wonder if they even live in Thailand because I can think of a lot better things to do here.
