Bank application

Featured Replies

Good morning.

If we use the bank's app, does the bank know it or not? What I don't understand is how the bank knows if someone uses the app and asks to verify the sim. Thanks.

Yes, the bank does recognize your device. Your device has to be registered with the banks system before you can access your account. Kbank for instance recognizes me and I can even check my account balance without having to enter my PIN.

I downloaded the app a while ago and registered and then uninstalled it and haven't used it since about 2017. Could they still contact me to ask for Sim card verification?

I have been trying to register my device over the internet with SCB app……..keeps telling me to 'access the Internet’.    Maybe it doesn't allow access from outside Thailand??   Any insight is appreciated, I am a long distance from Bangkok, and don't relish a one hour phone call for $$$’s.  I liked it much better when I could access via home computer.

You must use your registered telephone SIM, not wifi.

It's been well publicized that the account holder's name must match the name registered with the phone number. If they haven't contacted you then you're probably ok.

How they now? They call the SIM provider and ask the name of the owner of the number?

When I set up my SCB app in branch, I had to switch to data, not Wi-Fi, so you could try that first, however I suspect it has to be from a Thai number, maybe enable roaming from your Thai number if your current data won't work?

That's for sure!

Been reported repeatedly on AN.

New registration only with mobile data.

Data protection is not a prime concern in Thailand.

You can bet that there is a well established network.

Of course they can supply data of (foreign) customers and the providers will give them a match/no match result.

The banks will also go through their own data and find same number for accounts on different names and the phone(!) provider will threaten you locking the number within 24h if not appearing for identification. First hand experience. And that makes it clear that there is an exchange of data.

The banking app of Kasikorn checks whether the SIM for the registered number is active in the phone.

I have two SIMs in the phone.

Once and for unknown reason SIM 1 went off.

I noticed that when the Kasikorn app gave a warning that I can not continue and have to register my "new" number which was shown and coming from SIM 2.

Interesting as I don't think that happens with SCB - in fact it definitely doesn't as the phone with the SCB banking app has my UK sim in it.......

Agreed I originally set it up with my Thai sim in but have used it purely with wi fi since.
