Had tire destroyed on Sunday night by what we found out was a pot hole, luckily a taxi driver put the spare on for us yesterday and would not take a tip, so they are not all bad. As usual Mrs is asking her friends for recommendations, one says get a Chinese brand, only 4k for a set, mrs is keen. No way that is going to happen, so what is best Bridgestone, Dunlop or Goodyear? Last two sets have been firestone but I have not been very impressed with how quick they wear, although the local roads are dire.

Try Dunlop, buy from Dunlop depot on Sukhumvit Road Pattaya. Sometimes they have good offers if you are changing all 4 togeather.

It all depends how you drive.

If normal speeds and no crazy driving and braking pretty well most tires are ok.

Michelins are the only tires I will have on my Toyota Vios. I get about 70,000 km on a set.

IME they are superior in wet conditions.

Michelin by far is the best tire but if you wanna spend that much the second best tire in my opinion are Dunlops I for Dunlops on my car right now I’m perfectly happy with them I get free nitrous gas put in each tire to save gas mileage and they check it once a month I get free rotation and so done labs are pretty good TIT

Maxxis......👍

At one point before leaving the UK I worked for Stapleton's Tyres - the UK's largest tyre distributor.  Stapleton's had the UK franchise for Maxxis tyres and were much envied by their competitors for it.

The answer to the original question is undoubtedly 'the best you can afford' but I should point out that Maxxis are excellent value for money and perform well.  I fitted them by choice to my Mercedes and they were quiet, gripped well in the wet (always my top priority for a tyre - all tyres grip at sensible speeds in the dry) and had good endurance.

Also, don't get too concerned if you haven't heard of Maxxis, or feel reluctant to trust a small name in the industry - if I recall correctly, they are manufactured by Yokohama (Maxxis is a brand, not the manufacturer).

You're on the right track - the UK tyre industry calls cheap Chinese tyres "ditch-finders"...

I drove a car with some fitted once and it started raining on my journey.  I was appalled at how quickly they lost grip on a wet surface - it was nearly as bad as fresh snow.

As with most things in life, you usually get what you pay for.
