Anyone use a ST109 tracker?

About two years ago  I installed a ST109 tracker on the family shopping bike.

 

The tracker works fine and gives location of the bike within a meter or so.

 

The problem is with the SIM card payment. Initially 50฿ would be enough for a month without topping up. Recently the topping up time has become shorter till now the SIM will only work for just 10 days before needing to be topped up again.

 

Anyone have the same model tracker experiencing the same? if so, did you find a way to fix the problem? and get back to the 50฿ per month.

I suspect the problem lies with the sim card you are using, data rates have gone up considerably, and unlimited plans have mostly vanished.

 

Suggest you look into the GOMO sim, by AIS, but not available to foreigners, and only online, I believe.

 

I use it for data, 99 baht is valid for a year, and gives a substantial amount of data, I recharge mine every 3 months or so.

 

I am also considering buying one (through the GF) for my regular use, as there are free calls included!

Not really a tracker issue but I have had issues with receiving SMS messages on both an AIS and TureMove prepaid Sim. Each of these SMS message had a fee and were eating up my balance even though I had never subscribed to receive these messages. I think you can stop these by calling *137 but has been a while since I had the issue.

Someone could not use the bike if you kept the keys.

Then they would have to ask you for the key, and then go find you to get the key, and then you are without your keys, and then you have to get your keys back.

 

And you still can't tell if they are actually shopping or out playing. 

 

Better to just leave the key to the family shopping bike hanging in the kitchen.

Who are you tracking, the Mrs or the Kids? Note the odometer each time. 

If you do see on your Tracker that whoever has been using it for purposes not allowed by you, what will you do?

You know this is a public forum, yes? I am not tracking anyone.

 

You asked why the OP would need to track the family shopping bike. 

 

I suggested that one reason might be because someone could steal the bike, in which case you might be able to find it. I also said one could also tell if someone might be using it for something other than shopping, like perhaps your kid is out playing with his friends or whatnot. 

 

I also said I thought it was a good idea, But I was wrong. Using a tracker would be stupid. I apologize.

 

Making my family members beg me for the key each time is a great idea, as it noting the milage each time they take and return the bike. I could also keep records of all the trips, note any variance and check the recorded mileage against the actual mileage each time. 

 

So again, you are right, and I am wrong. Only a moron would put a tracker on a family shopping bike.

CanadaSam's suggestion of GOMO sim sounds promising, will get the wife to look into it  

 

Why track the shopping bike? I just wanted to find how this tracker thing worked. At the time I was the only one with driving license so obviously always knew where the car was. Had additional pedal lock and a couple of secret immobilizer switches so was not worried about the car being stolen, so the bike seemed the obvious choice for testing a tracker,

 

It was not a question of tracing anyone especially, though it did come in handy a couple of times when I saw the wife parked at the store and I could call her to add something to the shopping list, also I would not call her while the bike was moving, did not want her to answer the phone until she parked up.

 

One of my kids has now inherited the bike for school runs so the tracker is actually going to be useful  She knows the bike is tracked, so no problem there.

Does it have a battery inside? Bht 257 on Shopee.. The info got from ChatGPT says that it is a Bluetooth tracker. How does that work?

I have this one, it only has 3 wire to fit.  SinoTrack ST-901

 

I see they have a later model, with more wires, more suitable for a car.  SinoTrack GPS Tracker St-906GL
