Yeah, pints and pints...nah. I do go down once a week to get out and about, witness the train wreck on Sukhumvit. So few places to sit outside and watch the world go by.

This month's activities ....

Helped to set up regenerative farming fields and fence off a wild area and add flowering plants to improve biodiversity.

Longboard skate along a beach pathway - hard work into the wind, fun on the downwind leg.

10k run, but stopped halfway at a nice coffee shop to eat cake, so no real health benefit

Visited a goat cafe

Visited a new bar with great sunset views

Walked around a lively night market - bought some clothes for the Missus. (I don't bother buying clothes for myself after I realised I have more than enough to last for the remainder of my life

Figured out how to setup a solar powered 4G security camera for the farm

Cleaned and maintained the motorbike in preparation for a trip next month.

Took some nice portrait photos of my muse/wife

Teaching myself video editing to make a video about the farm project ... need to work on sound mixing as it's much harder than I imagined

Conference next week in Bangkok on regenerative cassava farming

Heading to Bangkok for the Impact Speedfest this weekend.

Going to Bangsaen end of month for the Grand Prix supercar and truck street racing.

Fixed some faulty lights in the house under the close supervision of the Missus

Going to various local shops with photos on my phone of items the Missus needs to cook dinner

And yes, lots of eating delicious food.

How old are you ? 25?

Most here have never been on a skate board, and probably do not know what a longboard are even! 10 km run in Thailand is hardcore for most.

Seems you still have the stamina to enjoy yourself. Keep the good work up 👏

Goat cafe 🤣 I fight with my Alpha ram sheep, good to be on your toes and eyes in my back.

I have huge respect for anyone involved in farming .... it's a tough business.

I'm in my late 60's, and while I think I'm reasonably fit, a day working on a farm leaves me exhausted and dehydrated 😄

Moving to Thailand, and be bored after awhile after the pink tinted glasses fades is the most common thing for most.

Why do you think the forum members drink and smoke to much? Happiness or boredom?

English guys maybe better off, because they do have a pub culture where they come from, playing pool, darts and just chit chat for hours. And to be true, it’s impressive how they manage to find that entertaining week after week, year after year

Either hang out in bars or start a family and raise a child.

Yes, exactly. Life is not meant to be exhilarating all the time.

And you can't expect Thailand to keep you entertained 24/7.

There is a saying that

"only boring people are bored"

Make you own amusement , what ever turns you on.

Intelligent people get bored, while stupid people can do the same over and over again and again.

Intelligent people get bored easily – Being curious and being smart are not the same thing. If a person has both of these qualities, they may start getting bored easily. Some success comes about as a result of creativity, but others come as a result of becoming an expert in a niche area. If a person is both smart and curious and also loves to learn, they may lose interest in things once they have figured it out

Pubs are full of stupid people. Same with most football fans. Grown men wearing football jumpers and yelling at refs for 50 years.

Sometimes I look through the online sites about what to do in Bangkok this coming week. It is often nearly all cafes and food. And then there are the regular sections about cafes and food.

But unless you give it a go it won't be exhilarating any of the time. Entering senior years is the time to sprint to the finish not sit on the sidelines.

Thailand is just a location.   Aside from mandatory ,responsibilities; working & family, what extracurricular things did you do, or interests did you have, back in the motherland.

Some of mine I still do or expanded,  Picked up couple new ones.  One thing that's easy to get into, and should for health, though does require a wee bit of kitchen counter space, home cooking with fresh whole foods, and will actually keep you busy.  Emphasis on 'fresh whole foods', means time consuming, shopping for fresh, prepping & cooking.

YouTube will teach you anything you don't know or need to improve on.  Really upped my game past 15 years.

As your metabolism slows down & muscle atrophy starts to kick in, a little exercise program would never go amiss.  Doesn't have to be intense.  Simply waling 30 minutes to keep things moving, with some resistance exercises to keep the muscle mass you have.

Once into a routine, it's actually easy to maintain.

Im curious what you do to sprint to the finish line 😁

The older I get, the more I need to use my brain, to get over the finish line at all 🤣

I understand for some, life started in Thailand, and my life restarted in Thailand, but still There is only so much you can do, before everything falls in to comfortably daily life no matter where you live, or what you do.

I see some few manage to keep the speed up, but their drive and hunger is not mine.

I do keep up with living healthy and comfortable, but thrilling and exiting? Nope. Comfortably good I will say, and nobody else stopping me from doing anything I would like to do, and I do not anything I wouldnt do.

Interesting question.

Money unfortunately has much to do with having some truly life changing experiences - or not.

Sometimes, simply saying yes and not passing on xyz can be an amazing adventure

Nevertheless, I think it's simply about not wasting your life sitting about. Have an active daily routine and additional plans like travel or perhaps some form of work that brings meaning to your life longer term.

We all naturally slow down as we age. Many things we have already accomplished on our bucket lists. Understood.

I've lost a lot of my addiction for travel although it's probably more the banal homogenization of everything, cost and security hassles more than anything else. Still, my wife drives me to seek new travels with her - and I'm thinking more about solo travel as she must work another seven years.

If you have good insurance this can allow you to be more physically adventurous. I'm set back by this living in Thailand.

My big impart would be simply don't lay about on the sofa waiting for the grim reaper to take you. Don't spend your life in the pubs at the bottom of a glass especially if that has been your life.

1 You have one life and it's almost over. Realize that.

2 There will be plenty of time sitting about moaning about your health, plenty of sofa time ahead.

We are all going to die, but you want to spend the balance of your life eating, traveling, fking and enjoying life. Not at home on your back watching TV.1

Get out and about each day, even without hobbies or sport - stay active. I think there's a strong cumulative effect there. If you have or can start hobbies and sport all the better.

Being as healthy as possible without taking the enjoyment out of life. Reduce alcohol consumption, smoking and get appropriate exercise. Take care of your skin.

Especially in Thailand - if you live in an sub/urban setting dressing nicely opens doors to meeting people and developing relationships.

If you are single try to find an active, energetic partner that is minimum 15 years your junior. While in the process date women as young as they will have you. This will bring vibrancy to your life. The goal is sharing the time you have left, not building a storybook love story.

If you are not single motivate your spouse to get fit, look her/his best - because you have done that already for yourself - but for them as well.

Not easy for 60+ yo (especially to find a school with good administration and teachers), but working with children can be rewarding and a real energy boost. I held a Thai professional license and taught at some great schools. The years flew by and I helped guide many students into some excellent opportunities that will change their lives. So, message= work with meaning and purpose.

=====

I guess what prompted me to write that is I have a friend in States with a big mortgage and a loveless marriage. He's stuck paying high taxes on the home in CA forever. He had some respiratory problems pre-covid due to a moldy air conditioner. This led to some complications with covid. He had taken numerous vaccines always seem to deteriorate as heath. His parents died mid 80s both with some serious health problems. He's pretty much given up on life. He fears a life alone especially as his health deteriorates. He's miserable.

But.. what if he got himself on a healthy footing? What if he could improve his health substantially? What if he gave himself a makeover? What if he dumped the lump, cut his financial losses and actively started to search and seek fun, energy and adventure in his life? Well, that's a new life there.

'Cultural cities' ... not even sure what that is.  Different meaning for different folks.  I think Philly is one of the best cities in the world, but if not into USA history, then wouldn't interest anyone, unless you think a Cheesesteak is a tourist attraction.

I only went to San Fran to ride on a cable car, and GF at the time, thought I was nuts.  La Jolla & Napa was nice day outings.  Couple photo opts, and that's about it.

San Diego for the zoo, and only because was raising 2 kids at the time.  Tijuana was a nice day trip, but wouldn't do either now.   Anti zoo now, and Tijuana, not sure how safe that is.

If I didn't work for an airlines, I wouldn't have travelled much at all, especially international.  I can't think of anything worth paying for and sitting on a plane, in economy for more than 2 hours is worth it.  Work for an airlines, and you turn into a 'flying snob' :cheesy:

Road trips across the USA, yea, but most people don't have the time or money, especially if having kids.   Even working for the airlines, I was amazed at how many didn't use the bennies.  Living & kids took up too much of their time & money.   Glad I never had kids then, just for that reason.

I also work for an airline, but honestly now after travelling so much I'm kinda done.

Tired of the stress of flying standby, even if it is free, too old to be couch surfing in airports if I don't make it.

I'll fly to see the kids and grandkids, but really I don't like being away from home anymore.

I miss my own bed, I miss my cats

Might sound terribly boring to some, but in my life I've seen a lot, but I've spent a lot of it on planes, probably slept more nights in hotel beds than my own bed.

Time to say enough is enough, now I'm happy sat here one of my cats snuggled up to me, watching the outside world from my living room and watching some TV

I started skateboarding at about 11 until about 16/17. We had an amazing street that ran downhill for better part of 2km. You could get a 30 minute uninterrupted ride from that hill. I never got into the tricks or skateparks, but was avid downhill enthusiast. I remember when the urethane wheels were born. We used to make skateboards in our parents garages. All that stopped when we could drive to the beach and go surfing and pick up the girlies hanging out at HB and Newport Beach. Good times those 70s.

I had a unicycle until I moved to Thailand, and was thinking of getting the off road version just to keep current, but moving back to Norway, I will buy one there again. Still got my slack line here, and try to keep current and walk once and awhile. But for rainy season needs to be rigged up every time I want to use it.

I would love to bicycle, but to hot for me, and only got excuses now these days to not do much else than fitness.

love my new Skierg together with rowing and hill climbing on my treadmill. And with a heavy bag and complete gym with free weights and machines, I have nothing to complain about. As well the small farm of course.

Bicycles deadly. Motorcycles as well. Just no respect in Thailand.

Funny, everyone sitting around on their phones forever like a bunch of zombies. Put them behind a wheel and they can't get to their destination fast enough.

I've been hit twice by scooters in BKK. Nothing serious, but a total lack of respect.

It's all good till you get hit and you're in hospital AND they do a runner 👍👍

It is more the hassle with dogs in my neighborhood where we have plenty of dirt and concrete roads. When bicycling you have to stop for chasing dogs, and calm them down. Dogs are simple, you stop, they stop, you start bicycling they chase you, you stop, they stop, you walk against them, they run, you start bicycling again, they chase you, and this happens for every corner, and every house.

I give out snacks, and that makes them remember me when I’m using the same tracks for my motorbikes. I think I will get out on a trip in the hills before I leave looking back in the pics, I actually miss it.

Good tread,
