Crime Tourist Fined 5,000 Baht After Driving Jeep Onto Kamala Beach & Getting Stuck

A Middle Eastern touris, from UAE, found himself in an embarrassing situation after recklessly driving a white jeep onto Kamala Beach, only to become hopelessly stuck in the soft sand. The incident occurred in front of the Hyatt Regency Kamala Resort in Kathu District, Phuket.

 

 

According to a video shared on the “Hodjang Phuket” Facebook page, officers from Kamala Police Station were seen assisting in the removal of the stranded vehicle. The 13-second clip sparked a flurry of online posts, with comments ranging from humorous to scathing.

 

Social media users pointed out the obvious danger of driving onto the beach, with some noting that the tide could have reached the vehicle within the hour. Others expressed frustration, saying the driver should not have received help and should instead have faced harsher consequences.

 

One comment read, “No need to help, fine them and let them figure it out themselves,” while another added, “Confiscate the vehicle. People like this should not be allowed to drive here.”

 

Police later confirmed the vehicle bore Phuket registration plate บบ 3671. Officers used a water truck to haul the jeep off the beach before escorting the driver to Kamala Police Station. There, the tourist met with investigators and was issued an immediate fine of 5,000 baht for violating local traffic regulations.

And was it a 4x2 or a 4x4 Jeep?  The girlie looking Wrangler doesn't appear to have lockout hubs.  But I don't think that's the subject vehicle?  Some of the OP attachments aren't downloading here...

It is amazing that such a "Flurry" of "Socially aware and responsible Thai residents crawl out from under their shells, demanding police action against this menace to public safety - Did they not read the part about being totally stuck in the sand?

 

Why do these Thais choose to stay and live in Pattaya, when it is obviously so terrible and full of low lives? Surely with their moral compasses pointing the way out, and being such outstanding citizens, surely another province deserves them and will welcome them with open arms.

 

Strange how they are not as outspoken about the drunk and drugged Thai drivers killing and maiming fellow citizens on a daily basis - and 6000 Baht fine! Normally, you don't get that for Crimes Against Humanity, never mind getting stuck in the sand.

 

I think it is about time that the government issued all of these Thais with badges to put on their lapels, "Morally Concerned Thai Citizen"

There are some pictograms posted that indicate no motorbikes on the sidewalk/footpath.

However, there is no need to post no vehicles on the beach because it is common sense and in most jurisdictions general public vehicles are not allowed on beaches for safety reasons, in particular the running over or otherwise injuring of people who may be lying on the beach. The hint that vehicles are not allowed, is the absence of vehicles on the beach.

 

The real crime that was not addressed, was the driver's choice of white feminine sandals as footwear.

Agree with your post, but being pedantic, it was a 5000 baht fine!

 

And yes, funny how "moral outrage" only seems to apply to misdemeanours committed by  non- Thais!

He probably thought he was back home, Driving in the desert dunes is a bit different, they are doing it with far superior vehicles, Toyota Land Cruisers, and before they go off road they reduce the tire pressure by half, Them fake Jeeps are they four wheel drive or what? ,

Where are all these shell wearing Thais you are blabbering about? What does stupid dope driving his rental onto a part of Kamala Beach, Phuket, that generally has very little sand TO drive on have to do with Thais in Pattaya?

 

Seems a slow news day. Drag the guys Jeep back onto the pavement, fine him, carry on, nothing to see here.
