Trump Hesitates on New Russia Sanctions, Urges Europe to Take the Lead

Despite these appeals, Trump resisted the push for fresh U.S. sanctions, citing the financial burden they impose. “When I sanction a country, that costs the U.S. a lot of money — a tremendous amount of money,” he said. “It's not just, let's sign a document. You're talking about billions and billions of dollars

That is downright silly excuse. Trade is pittance with Russia. In fact US has an enormous trade deficit with Russia. Export to Russia at around half a billion and import almost $3 billion and Russia was excluded in his reciprocal tariff list.. WTF.

It cost little for US to impose sanction and is morally and politically the right thing to do. Unless he was referring to the billions lost personally from his Russia oligarch friends. Silly and corrupt man.

I thought he was going to solve everything on day 1 ?

Yeah.  He said that.  But he didn't/couldn't for whatever reason.  We are where we are now, let's look forward to seeing a way to get the death and destruction stopped rather than bitching about a politician saying what he thinks people want to hear.  They all do it, some worse than others, but they all do it.

Well at least we agree on some things but my point is you can't keep blaming MSM when the man himself is either saying it or tweeting it.

And I don't have cognitive bias - I have reality bias - which means I look at many sources before coming to an opinion but again I will say, words have meaning and impact, especially if it's coming from the POTUS and Trump has a VERY bad tendency to talk first and think later. Not the kind of quality I look for in the leader of the free world.

No - it is cognitive - but dont worry, there are millions like that about Trump. That is why the media does things like this story - it stirs up you guys. Remember when Trump was accused of saying the white nationalist nazis were 'good people' - a total lie and a fabrication of the truth - that is the norm for the media - thousands of times. You have been 'click baited' - the truth is not what they do - they are all about click baiting.

Same on both sides - Fox and others carry on about absolute BS - but I know that it is BS and that most of it is exaggeration.  But it aint anywhere near as bad as the mistruths about what Trump says, thinks, eats, walks etc etc etc.   Is Trump an smooth talking politician and a diplomat - hell no - he is rough as guts and very abruptly direct - and that is one of the many reasons why so many voted for him.

You don’t read social media and supposedly not MSM, so I just wander: where do you get your wisdom from? Is it from your genius self or from some conspiracy media? I read that older people are more likely to believe those media.

There are many other sources - try looking around.

PS - sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, and it is far above you.

This isn’t about ‘both sides’ of which you make false equivalence.

It’s about Trump, who is very clearly owned by Putin.

Only in your mind, and in the minds of others like you.

Is the EU still buying natural gas from Russia?

A couple of countries still do in relatively big quantities. Those who oppose (and try to block) any EU sanctions against Russia, and of course oppose and block help and aid to Ukraine. That is Hungary (Orban), and Slovakia (Fico), Putin's (and Trump's...) friends.

The shame of European countries. They should have been thrown out of the European Union.

So highly Trump has spoken about Orban (and Fico), makes me sick to my stomach.
