In a significant humanitarian effort, the national government has successfully repatriated 20 Filipinos and 23 children who were stranded in Dubai due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The ongoing conflict has led to disruptions in air travel across major airports in the Middle East.

On Tuesday morning, 17th June, the returnees were warmly welcomed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport by DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan. The group had initially planned to travel to Jordan, but their journey was halted as airport closures ensued in response to the conflict.

The Department of Migrant Workers, in close cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs, acted swiftly to coordinate the repatriation process. This involved logistical planning and diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety and timely return of the stranded Filipinos and their families.

Secretary Cacdac commended the collaborative efforts, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in times of crisis. The successful repatriation underscores the government's dedication to the welfare of overseas Filipino workers, particularly during periods of regional instability and uncertainty.

The returnees expressed relief and gratitude for the government's timely intervention, allowing them to finally reach home after an anxious and uncertain period abroad. This operation marks a continued commitment to protecting the Filipino diaspora amidst global challenges.
