Just renewed my 1 year O extension yesterday at Jomtien Immigration.  Must say the process was the quickest ever. Documents checked in 5 minutes, wait 5 minures at desk 8 then agreed in another 5 minutes. Out in 15 minutes.

BUT at the end the IO gave me a telephone number and said someone would be coming to my condo to take my photo !! Never had this before, what is the purpose, to prove i live at the address quoted? They already have my TM30.

Did you have to go back the following day to pick up your passport?  I was baffled by the fact that after all documents are checked the IO doesn't grant the visa there and then.  I assume it's so Immigration can collect a share of the 40 baht car parking fee for the two minutes it takes to collect your passport the next day.

OK i didn't get the new stamp then i have to go back the next working day. But i assume it's a formality once the documents have been checked and agreed.

First I have heard of this.. Perhaps it is something you said or did to make them think you really do not live there? If it is a new requirement then it will surely affect all the agents there who have customers living elsewhere in Thailand..

He's renewing the optional yearly extension of permission to stay NOT the Visa. They usually stamp your Passport then and there at desk 8. No need to give it to them and pickup the next day like is necessary when the initial Non-O visa is granted. In my experience this is what happens and I've applied for several extension of permission to stay at Jomtien Immigration.

Regarding checking to confirm expats dwelling residence etc. First I've heard of it. But, I welcome it as I'd rather them be strict and filter out the riff-raff than be lax.

Actually, how does this get rid of any riff-raff? Most people on O visa are not riff-raff and are not in Thailand doing anything illegal.

No they gave me a slip of paper with the number on for a Captain Poo  and said he would ring me in a few days. He had a box full of these slips so i assume it's now a common thing.

Assume it was an extension based on retirement.

Reported in other topics that Immigration are now making random home visits for extensions based on retirement.

Yes retirement. But why? They can see i am over 50, They checked my financial status and my TM30. It hasn't changed in 16 years. They already have my photo on the extension application. They took another one at desk 8 in immigration.

To ensure you're actually residing at the reported address.

They appear to be having a crackdown at the moment.

I'm not sure that home visits for ext stay/ret will scale for Bangkok, unless they hire a lot more "officers"?

My SWAG would be 100 visits per day in Bangkok.

I'm not sure they do many home visits for ext stay/marriage in Bangkok?

We already provide heaps of required documentation supporting our address, although I am surprised they haven't asked for rental payment receipts.

What advantage is there to fabricating one's home address?

Can you request a female inspection officer ?

Only if you meet the criteria of being;

Young.

Single.

Handsome.

Rich.

Unfortunately, you don't meet the criteria.  😜

If Immigration want to send someone to check whether you live at a given address, the least they could do is then to write-up a report confirming you live there. Such a report could serve as proof-of-address for banks abroad etc.

It's called a certificate of residence.

I always do mine in the afternoon.

NEVER got it stamped the same day.

ALWAYS need to come in to pick up next day.

I reckon you're doing yours in the morning.

Don't understand your post....Jomtien desk #8 do not stamp your passport with your yearly Ret extension when you apply..always need to go back the following day to pick up.

It would not be a "report confirming you live there"

It would be a report confirming that you lived (past tense) there on the date of the visit.
