Okay, I admit it. I'm a plastic bag junkie. Easy, lazy. Great for rubbish.

But I've got a lot of guilt about it. I carry a Makro heavy plastic bag wherever I go. In fact, I'm having a strap repaired at the sewing lady. But even Makro puts everything in plastic bags.

Microplastics and forever chemicals in all life, not only humans but down to the tinest creatures.

What are others doing about this?

On the grand scale of things it’s irrelevant, eventually it will all be recycled by nature and return to its original form.

Plastic is a good thing, for those without a canvas or alternative material.  Anything is better than paper.

Was at a restaurant the other day, and they had paper straws.  About as un-ECO friendly as you can be.  If I lived there, I wouldn't patronize the place.

You can't fix stupid :coffee1:

I keep each plastic bag separately in another plastic bag to preserve them to ensure I do not use more than the necessary amount of plastic bags.

I'm all about the environment. My hero is that little weasel faced scrote, Greta Thunderthighs  or whatever her name is.

I keep a plastic garbage bag in the car and motorcycle in case I lose my clothing, good for poncho rain gear too.

I think the heaviest users of plastic bags in Thailand are the BIB. I don't think a canvas bag will have the same effect they are looking for. Unless of course they wet it first. Then they will be accused of depleting the world's fresh water resources.

They just can't catch a break, the BIB. Life is so unfair.

That's a good thing, since plastic is eco friendly, sort of.   Way better than paper of cardboard production & use.  It's what idiots do with it, after using.

Plastic is here, as a byproduct of oil & gas processing.  So use it, reuse it, recycle it, and lastly, burn it for energy.  Minimal to no waste with plastic.

  • Plastic waste makes up 80% of all marine pollution.
  • Around 8 to 10 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year.
  • By 2050, plastic will likely outweigh all fish in the sea.
  • In the last ten years, we have produced more plastic products than in the previous century.
  • There is an estimated 75 to 199 million tons of plastic waste currently in our oceans.
  • A further 33 billion pounds of plastic enter the marine environment every single year.
  • Plastic pollution kills around 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals every year.
  • Virtually every piece of plastic that has been made still exists somewhere on the planet.

Except for all the marine animals

Easily solved, if people cared.  Stop transporting via the seas.  No real reason to use oil tankers, except higher profits.

All in favor of a complete ban on fossil fuel production.  In the 21st century, it's almost an unnecessary material to be used for most things.

Again .... PLASTIC is NOT the problem.  PEOPLE ARE.   What they do with the plastic after it's use.

What vehicles are you driving ?  How can you complain about oil & gas production, along with it's byproducts.   Just a wee bit hypocritical :coffee1:

Have you tried recycling small plastic bags? What is used for any food or any meal?

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Ask for two, three, four plastic bags, the more the better.

The other day I saw a consignment of coconuts with each coconut wrapped in plastic. WTF!

The plastic dystopia shall be carried out to its logical end. Thailand has the script already written out: remote communities who see a foreign tourist every blue moon will litter themselves knee-deep in plastic garbage, then blame tourism, or as they like to say, "bad tourism".

What's wrong with paper. Apart from the fact it gets soggy.

Even the "Bag for Life" bags are plastic.

We reuse most plastic bags.  Anything not or can't be reused, we burn.  As that is would the municipality does with it, hopefully.  Worse, dump in the sea, and why we burn ... to Save a Turtle.

Municipalities should recycle or burn trash for energy.  All municipalities.  Until then, we'll burn what little trash we generate, in our almost 'smokeless' trash kiln.

Seriously, cutting down trees is eco friendly ???

Google, 'eco friendly, paper or plastic' ... enlighten yourself.  Paper/cardboard is about the worst thing to use for anything.

Yes, but they're not designed for single use.

Whilst they are probably stretching it a bit, there is a clue in the name "Bag for Life".

Paper products are made from trees grown on tree farms, managed and rotated to produce products just like any other farm. No harm to the environment by any measure.

Paper/cardboard is renewable. The growth of trees sequesters carbon which is still present in paper/cardboard and remains even if it is buried in landfills. But worry not, most of the unbleached brown paper is used to make boxes for on-line shopping. Now there's a growth industry, if you pardon the pun.

I am 78 next month

And ???   I'm 70+ and still walk, pedal & drive around.  BEV when driving, as enjoy the better performance & savings (charge w/excess solar).   Not contributing to the low level air pollution is a nice added plus.

I am going to ban you from ever using a plastic bag. How is that?

No. Just being prepared for the unexpected.
