redwood1 Posted Wednesday at 03:04 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:04 AM So are the 11,000 weed shops in Thailand all going to have a Dr Feelgood there writing prescriptions to weed buyers? Folks this whole thing is a joke.....Its just too late to try and put weed back in a box.....They already lost control years ago.. 1

Weed has been illegal elsewhere for years, yet people still buy it. The legal way means taxing it - to the government's benefit. There are a few things that will push this law through. The biggest one is the sharp rise in people trying to smuggle it frm here to the UK and other cuntries. This is not a good look for Thais. Second is the rise in the number of Thai people using it and the number of shops that are selling, as well as the number of pop-up vans. Wonder in NANA has the right idea they have a doctor set up next door to their shop. The interesting thing is going to be the quality of doctors who are involved. Will they all have to be licensed and approved by law? 1

And yes the cops will do that - but they will also want to nail some people when the laws change - to look like they are doing their job. And dont walk around the streets smoking it - at least for a while. Hope you're right. I fear the worst because Thais are famous for taking dead aim at their feet. 1

In the tourist zones, which you were referring to, many people. Let's face it, Pattaya is not short of alcoholics, is it? You obviously haven't seen some of the jerks in the tourist zones making a nuisance of themselves. They aren't happy go lucky adolescents having a bit of fun. We are talking about weed here, not alcohol. For every story in Thailand about weed smokers making a nuisance of themselves, I could match them with 10 about drunkards causing trouble. exactly - go to Soi Bukhao any day, monday or Sunday or Friday, doesn't matter, there are expats and tourists getting absolutely blotted at 11am straight through until 3am - stoners lol, what's the issue, they take naps I smoke weed myself and heard a while back to never walk down the street with it, so I do it discreetly and quietly or in my apartment. This genie is out of the bottle, some Thai's may want it put back in but that's impossible now, too many palms have been properly greased - medical licenses not much different than similar scams in the states, pay some pop-up Doc shop X amount of dollars, get the license 1 1
paul1804 Posted Wednesday at 03:19 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:19 AM That's how it always should have been, the weed shops do no favours for attracting high spending tourists and family's which is the sector Thailand should be targeting. Sure there are some high rollers that smoke weed and use other means of illegal substances to get a buzz but they aren't the sector for this countries long term prosperity & give Farangs are bad reputation! It was aways Anutin that pushed the current status quo for his own gain which is a reflection of Thailands elite & their practices. I hope common sense prevails and cannabis gets to be a controlled substance so you cannot legally walk down the street smoking it!! 3

Now I can hardly smell the backed up sewers, the smog, tuk-tuk exhausts, the rotting seafood in the wet markets, the fermented fish sauce (plara) and the sweet smelling durian. 1 1 3

That lifestyle faded away 10-15 years ago, and Covid was its demise. When I first started working that's the way some people were. Today, most people under the age of 50 are not interested in that. They socialize differently. I expect that the cannabis shops didn't fully understand their market.

Cabradelmar Posted Wednesday at 04:16 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:16 AM Shocked, not shocked. The entire decriminalization process (implementation) from the beginning was poorly thought through. It was like a wild west gold rush, and it was too sudden, extreme and unmanaged to make it sustainable or palatable to the saints and pearl clutchers. Unfortunately, there is now a lot of capital (dispensary owners and cultivators) at risk from those who moved fast in the beginning. My guess is if they do go through with this planned reversal, that it too will be poorly managed, leading to more chaos (uneven enforcement, payoffs and bribes too look away, etc.). Not to mention all the inevitable whinnying yet to come from those decrying the loss of weed tourist/tourism dollars. Personal, I'm disappointed. But it will no affect on anyone who knew how to get weed before decriminalization. I also think the advent of medical marijuana cards will be the way forward as a way to skirt this reverseal. We'll see.

Now what were you saying about common sense? I come to Thailand a couple of months a year and am yet to smell marijuana when walking around - except for two young guys brazenly sharing a joint in the smoking area outside the airport. There are rules to control public use and in my experience people seem to abide by them. Perhaps in places like Pattaya extra liberties are taken, but the regulations are there to be enforced if people wish to do so. I'd have thought police would be keen to make an extra baht or two from apprehending weed smokers ignoring the law. As somebody who originally came to Thailand as a backpacker from 81 onwards, I am shocked at the wowserish, holier than thou attitude of some of the expats who seem to want Thailand to even stricter than their own country. It's ironic that the Thais now seem to have become more liberal in their attitudes while many of the expats come across as incredibly intolerant of anything that doesn't fit their narrow views. I'd have thought anyone wanting to make Thailand their permanent home would want to live in a more liberal country than the one they left. Apparently not. 1 2 1

Years pre-legalization it was available for delivery with a single call or message on Line. they are not making recreatonal use go away. 2 1
