Legal status of cannabis in Thailand: In a constant state of reclassification

Featured Replies

All those "Thailand is about to reclassify cannabis" stories make me laugh. Obviously, they're not gonna reclassify it. But they want to save face and show that they don't tolerate uncontrolled recreational use of cannabis. So the best way to describe the legal status of cannabis in Thailand is "In a constant state of reclassification".

According to my friend who owns a cannabis store, everyone will need a script.

Not sure how this cannabis saga in Thailand will play out. It’s a coin toss. The government might green-light the newly proposed regulations by the ministry of health or they could still fizzle out before they hit the Royal Gazette. Total wildcard. And with the current government’s shaky ground, plus Thailand's even shakier economy, a new administration coming in could flip the script entirely, again. One way or another, it’s a bloody mess.

I’m a regular user, but honestly, I’ve stopped caring much about the outcome. The government’s handling of this has been an embarrassing dog and pony show from the start. If they tighten the laws now, they’ll wipe out over 10,000 local businesses overnight. Between sellers and buyers, that’s potentially millions of people affected. The backlash could be loud, and then the government might end up backpedaling all over again.

In the meantime, I’ve stocked up enough to ride this out for a number of months, plus a lot extra tucked away in the freezer for a rainy day if ever needed.

Has there been a vote yet ? No! Weed is as legal as it always has been. This nutcase has decided to pass laws by himself. Same old Taksin games as before. I plan to ignore all laws until I see a vote !

Many of these articles imply that the restrictions are effective immediately, especially in the headlines, but as I have just bought online from one of my sources , a large supplier, I don't think that is the case.

I will shortly be placing an order with a different supplier, lets see how that goes, I'm thinking it won't be a problem as I'm sure they would send a message out to all customers via their line account if things had changed, and I've heard nothing yet

As long as they are selling I will be buying

If it were me, I would toss the whole bill where it belongs, with Anutin and the BJT, who had months under Prayuth's illegal military coup government to thrash it out and get it right. However they couldn't ,  so now toss it back to Anutin and tell him to came back with a fully viable and fully legal solution.
