A shocking case of domestic violence has rocked the province of Roi Et, after a man brutally stabbed his fiancée and then fatally shot himself, believing he had killed her.

The incident occurred around 21:30 on 24 June in a stilted wooden house in Changhan Subdistrict, Changhan District. Police from Changhan Police Station and emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a shooting.

Inside a bedroom on the upper floor of the house, officers found the body of Mr. Arthit 33, dressed in black. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the right temple. A 30cm-long knife and a sawed-off shotgun, were found nearby and secured as evidence.

Also found at the scene was a severely injured woman, identified as Ms. Nuntawan 29. She had been stabbed approximately five times in the torso and was barely breathing. Emergency responders immediately transported her to Changhan Hospital for emergency treatment.

According to Ms. Nuntawan’s father, Mr. Arthit had proposed to his daughter roughly four months earlier, but the wedding had yet to take place. He worked in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, while Ms. Nuntawan remained in Roi Et. The couple reportedly met on weekends.

On the day of the incident, Ms. Nuntawan had returned home as usual, had dinner with her family and then went upstairs to rest. Her parents and grandmother remained downstairs. A short time later, a single gunshot was heard from upstairs. When her father rushed to the room, he found his daughter gravely wounded and Mr. Arthit already dead.

Investigators believe the couple had a serious argument over the phone, prompting Mr. Arthit to drive from Nakhon Ratchasima to confront his fiancée in person. After a heated altercation, he reportedly stabbed her multiple times, assuming she had died. Overwhelmed by the consequences of his actions, he then shot himself.

The case is currently under investigation, while Ms.Nuntawan remains in critical condition.
