A coordinated police raid in Chonburi’s Ban Bueng District has led to the arrest of 15 foreign nationals and the seizure of more than 200 rounds of ammunition, authorities confirmed on 28 June.

 

Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division (ACTPD), working alongside officials from the Department of Employment, arrested 10 Myanmar nationals and 5 Chinese nationals on multiple charges. These include working without valid permits, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of restricted ammunition for which civilian licences cannot be issued.

 

 

The raid targeted factories identified as high-risk establishments for forced labour and human trafficking. During the search, officers discovered an alarming cache of ammunition:

 

• 7 rounds of .22 calibre found in a plastic bucket inside one suspect’s room

• 26 rounds of .40 calibre

• 21 rounds of 9mm calibre

• 17 rounds of .45 calibre

• 132 rounds of 5.56x45mm calibre

• Additional unidentified ammunition was also recovered

 

Some of those apprehended were found without any form of identification. Police stated that several suspects attempted to escape but were swiftly detained. All 15 individuals have since been transferred to Ban Bueng Police Station for legal processing.

 

Authorities confirmed that, during initial interrogations, the suspects confessed to all charges.

 

This operation was part of a wider strategy to inspect high-risk venues across the province, aimed at combating forced labour and human trafficking. Police say such operations will continue in an effort to uphold labour laws.

The "unidentified" ammo is 7.62x39mm, the most-used weapons caliber in the world and used in the AKM family of assault rifles.  It is obvious because it uses steel casings.  Every country surrounding Thailand issues it to their troops and the Thais can't identify it?
