The Trump administration moved on Tuesday to cancel planned shipments of weapons to Ukraine, setting off a wave of fury among national security commentators on social media.

"BREAKING: White House confirms it has halted weapons that Ukraine was scheduled to receive, including PAC3 Patriots, 155mm artillery rounds, GMLRS, Stinger, AIM-7, and Hellfire missiles," reported PBS Newshour's Nick Schifrin, who added that White House deputy press secretary Anny Kelly explained the move by saying, “This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a DOD review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe. The strength of the United States Armed Forces remains unquestioned — just ask Iran.”

Many commenters accused the White House of doing the bidding of Russia's Vladimir Putin, who has engaged in a yearslong invasion to try to bend Ukraine to his will; others attacked Elbridge Colby, the defense policy undersecretary who had a hand in the decision.

US halts some weapons shipments to Ukraine, White House says

The US has halted some weapons shipments to Kyiv, the White House has said, as Russia's war against Ukraine has intensified.

The decision was taken "to put America's interests first" following a Department of Defense review of US "military support and assistance to other countries", White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said on Tuesday.

The US has sent tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, leading some in the Trump administration to voice concerns that US stockpiles are too low.

The Ukrainian government has not commented on the announcement. US officials did not immediately say which shipments were being halted.

The US has an "Israel First" commitment.  That means Ukraine comes last.  And as is becoming evident, supporting Ukraine with more weapons is whipping a dead horse as Russia has taken full control of the Luhansk Oblast as of July 1st and has about 70% control of Donetsk Oblast.  The Russian attrition offensive has moved into Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Sumy Oblasts as Russia opens up new fronts.  Russia also controls around 75% of both Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts and probably will be looking at reestablishing control of the West bank of the Dnieper River soon. Then?  Hello Odessa.

Now for those of you who believe that pulling US weapons from Ukraine is "disgraceful" my personal take on it is that the sooner Ukraine simply surrenders and stops fighting, the sooner the terms of surrender can be ironed out and the needless killing ended before Ukraine loses even more territory.  They've lost 4 Oblasts, all four of which had referendums and voted to become part of the Russian Federation regardless of how badly the UK, EU, and US refuses to admit it. Wait much longer and they'll be losing a total of 6 or 8 (or more).  Like gambling, you've got to know when to cut your losses and simple stop.

Or not.  Maybe the UK and EU want to pull some troops together and pick up where the US left off with weapons and perhaps even put boots-on-the-ground and chase Ivan back to the Urals...or not. It will be interesting how Gen-X in the UK and EU react when they heads of state calls for involuntary conscription to gather cannon-fodder for the Ukrainian Front.  That ain't gonna go over well methinks.

This has always been about NATO expansion and protecting the rights and well-being of ethnic Russians in Ukraine which were the provocations for Russia to invade, and this whole thing could have been settled in April 2022 accept the Biden Administration and the UK decided to have Zelinsky try to beat Russia militarily as the goal of NATO has been the strategic defeat of Russia.  Well - that didn't work out.

It's time for Ukraine to accept the inevitable and throw in the cards and count their losses and move on as a neutral state that has been demilitarized. Otherwise?  Well.....?  Maybe the UK and EU will cut their social welfare systems and redirect state funds from helping the most needy citizens and redirecting those funds into weapons manufacturing for the benefit of Ukraine, and building armies of Gen-X conscripts to send to the Russia Front.  I'm sure their citizens will support that 100%.

That would be a good outcome.  You woke liberals laud Ukraine as if it has been around forever and deserves to be preserved.  It was created as a country in 1991 after the USSR disbanded - and just like Yugoslavia it was a big mistake and needs to be broken apart into separate States.  Between WW1 and when USSR disbanded in 1990s, both Yugoslavia and Ukraine were mistakes that the western powers created for political reasons.  One has gone (Yugoslavia) - and now it is Ukraine's turn to be dismantled.

Ukraine is divided - especially between the East and the West of the country.  A majority of those in the West support being a part of EU/NATO, while a majority of those in the East support being a part of Russia (60% have a Russian Passport*). There was a coup in early 2014 that ousted the Russian President and a pro-European President was 'selected' by NATO/USA (Obama) and this resulted in a Civil War when those in the East revolted against the new Government.  Ukraine is divided and needs to be split of whatever happens with the Russian actions a Civil War is likely to continue - the only solution is the creation of two independent States.

More Russian propaganda.

Fears Of Disaster Brewing For Ukraine As U.S. Halts Weapons Shipments Over Stockpile Concerns

Ukrainian officials say that despite media reports that the Trump administration is halting the delivery of critical air defense interceptors and other munitions, at least some U.S. arms continue to be provided and they have not been informed that these transfers will no longer be made. The news comes at a particularly critical time, as Russia has stepped up its aerial attacks. Earlier this week, Moscow launched its largest air barrage of the war, firing 477 drones and 60 missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Overall, major and relatively sudden shortfalls in planned weapons deliveries could have wide-ranging impacts on the battlefield.

On Wednesday, a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Patriot interceptors are still being provided.

“Deliveries are ongoing as of today,” Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, told the Ukrainian FREEDOM TV news outlet. “It would look very strange — it would look inhumane — to stop supplying interceptor missiles, especially for Patriot systems, which clearly and significantly protect civilians across Ukraine.”

That is so stupid.

Ukraine is fighting for its survival as a sovereign nation.

Russia is fighting for Putin's revisionist history fantasy of restoring Russian empire.

Ukraine targets military targets.

Terrorist Russia targets civilians.

Pure delusional propaganda.

And 'sovereign nation' my backside - research the truth mate.

I haven't noticed Ukraine launching massive drone and ballistic missiles into apartments where people are living, in other words deliberately targeting civilians.

However, Russia does on a daily basis.

Genocide and the serial killing of women and children seem to be a sport for Putin. My guess is that he actually enjoys it.

The means justifies the end and this case it's all about Trump feeling good because "he made a deal"  - sort of - but he will claim the credit if Ukraine has to capitulate.

God help us all.

Sometimes when I see the news from the US I think the Confederacy still exists and still is a Nation within a Nation.

Interesting analogy.

However, one could substitute 'The USA', 'Italy' or countless other existing countries for 'The Confederacy'.

No. not countless. By the way, who founded Donetsk?

It's because he's so full of horse manure and then refuses to admit it.

Example: ' I will stop the Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office.'

Six months later Putin still ignores him.

But rather than admitting defeat, he blames Biden for Russia invading Ukraine.

That's irrelevant, he said he would stop the war

Come on Trump, admit you talk nonsense, be a man, take personal responsibility for the nonsense you spout.
