Thailand Tightens Cannabis Laws, Dispensaries Must Transform

Did you actually invest in one of these illegal shops..

:cheesy: don't be ridiculous I have never even been inside one, I am not a tourist or an idiot, further more there are no shops like that where I live.   The whole issue seems centered around a few whingers that live in Phuket, Pattaya and Bangkok,   I'm surprised they can't find anything else to moan about

Good, legalising weed was the biggest mistake Thailand has made in the last 10 years, the only reason it was legalised in the first place was because the fat cats in charge at the time had their greas

Just think about that statement and the fortunes involved, especially in legalized markets.

To be self employed and start a business is always a risk.

The side effects of using cannabis are well known to you???

That comment has nothing to do with the question I asked.

Are you on the stuff now as your response shows poor comprehension wrt my post.

You failed to understand, by participating in an illegal activity, the shops are illegal because they knowingly sold to non medical customers...why is that so hard for you to understand

Simply because nothing illegal took place , its been discussed at length on many threads here , there was no medical requirement .

The forms still aren't ready, hence the 60 day delay during which it may continue to be sold

If a "normal " shop sold a bottle of beer to a child to take home for his father it may well be an illegal sale but it does not become an illegal business

The sale of cannabis was illegal to under 21's and pregnant women that's it    It may well have gone against the spirit of what was intended but that is a completely different matter, No law was broken , due to no law existing, no prosecutions or arrests for the same reason. Why would you even care anyway you don't even smoke. you are just a snivelling troll

What stupidity! Whether you use pot or not, who wants to ruin the economy?!? And put ordinary businesspeople, particularly young folks on their first big break, out?

Can you imagine how much having an onsite doctor would be. This will lead to inevitable corruption and back to underground sales.

And govt is going to jail people again?!? What stupidity!

no shortage of money to be made with most drugs, the guys who opened the the shops , particularly the smaller ones up country will simply start selling it covertly as many have been doing for years and they can now charge more as its illegal

The cocaine, heroin , amphetamine markets must be worth billions upon billions worldwide plenty of people have earned mega fortunes thanks entirely to the illegality and the inability of the authorities to understand the issue

and how exactly will they justify someone has medical use for it? the glaucoma myth was debunked long ago... they know that they are making it impossible for people to consume and sell... geez now the dispensaries have to be registered hospitals? how much is that gonna cost? they didnt make money on taxes so they found a loophole... jackasses

if you read the article it seems they are well prepared with this coming change with over 9000 trained to issue prescriptions, where did they spring from???, and they are ready to roll.(new role for medical dropout students)

Not much expense just change the signs to look more respectable, rename the shop a medical clinic and dress everyone in white coats, simple all over nothing will change its a lot of gobbley gook.

The other question is who will monitor the THC levels if 9000 trained prescription issuers are ready to roll that means 9000 shops will be ready to reopen and 3000 will have to wait for more trainees to pass the medical school .

(requirement, be able to write a prescription, take blood pressure, use stethoscope, and bingo you get your ganja)

What a laugh with the selection of photo at the head of that article. That place isn't quite ready to transition to bing a clinic :))

There will be so many proud Thai mamas soon.

My son the (weed) doctor.

I think I'm gonna go for one of those Thai weed cards. A cool novelty item if nothing else. I can frame it along with my bartending certificate from Harvard and my reverend's license from the Hawaii church of candle dripping (I can marry people).

Does that mean you can have as many Thai wives as you wish?

My recollection is that it was for recreational usage, but only in situations where an innocent parties were not affected by its use?

Might have dreamt that up?

Edit (Reuters)

Anutin Charnvirakul has said that cannabis use is acceptable “in one’s own household, as long as it doesn’t bother others.” He emphasized that personal or therapeutic use at home isn’t problematic, provided it’s not impacting anyone else

I seem to remember there was a maximum  20,000 baht fine for public nuisance,  never enforced that I know of , police are not bothered anymore

Good, legalising weed was the biggest mistake Thailand has made in the last 10 years, the only reason it was legalised in the first place was because the fat cats in charge at the time had their greasy fingers in the cannabis pie, most Thais were dead against it, but they didnt have a choice, as were all the countries surrounding Thailand ( notice how not one followed Thailands progressive policy of legalisation 🤣 ) the massive downside of the softening of the rules did nothing but attract criminal gangs from all over the world, who took advantage of Thailands pathetic law enforcement to ship huge amounts out of the country to wherever it was needed, Thailand became the new Amsterdam, and anyone who needs a lesson from history should look at what happened there, a criminal, scum infested cesspit of a place , its no suprise that the explosion of cocaine in Thailand directly coincides with the legalisation of cannabis, one drug attracts the other

Stupid comment. In fact IMO that was the best thing they did in the last 10 years. Just the way it has been done is wrong. We are living in 2025 ffs, the old brainwashing for the last 70 years has worked so well... from the US. But look now, they legalised it.. just move on, make proper rules with common sense and everything is fine. Alcohol is the worst drug and freely available and its the cause of many social  problems....

I just don't get it if it isn't political...

The "problems" are easy to fix :

1. About the smell : There are already rules that say smoking in public is prohibited thus, they aren't enforced. WHY ?

2. About smuggling : It would be easy to make more controls at the airports, with some sniffer dogs and enhanced x ray machines . Anyway those brainless smugglers idiots will always continue to do that regardless of the status of the plant.

3. About the youngsters, the breastfeeding and pregnant women, again there are rules, enforced ??

4. All the shops that are near schools must relocate or close.

But you will show me, won't you?

Here's a novel idea, why don't the handful of anti cannabis stalwarts open their own anti cannabis thread and then they can virtue signal to each other to their hearts content.  Instead of coming on threads like this for no other reason than antagonise other members who come here for information

Its nothing short of trolling they should be suspended,

All you do is accuse people who disagree with you of being drunkards, which is a really daft way to conduct a conversation.

What about Canada? what happened there? Is it a criminal, scum infested cesspit of a place?

November is a long time away to give these guys a chance to change their minds.

That's because their own government might not make it to November.

Humans, every time, all you need do is follow the money with us.

Think of the children my ass.. I mean think of them yes sure, but enough of the holding them over your head in faux protest.

"We can't sell our homegrown product any more," Mr Pan said. "We now have to buy cannabis from government-certified suppliers. Previously, one gramme cost around 40 baht wholesale. Overnight, prices jumped dramatically to 120 baht per gramme."

The whole arrangement needs work and some tuning, no doubt about that, but this is the Big 5 making their move more or less.. albeit 10 years too late to the international markets, dummies.

Probably not, but the Canadian government has more than 2 braincells to rub together, also the comparison between Thailand and Canada as tourist destinations is like chalk and cheese, il bet there isnt a cannabis shop every 50m in Vancouver or Montreal, stinking the streets out and atttacting criminal smuggling gangs is there?

Totally agree I lived and worked in the Netherlands for a few years I never heard of any issues with the weed cafes and although I don’t participate in it I used to frequent the cafes as one of my friends enjoyed the odd spliff

Really? i worked in Den Haag for 4 years, used to go to Amsterdam on a regular basis, place was overun by Morrocan,Algerian and North African drug dealers and pimps, you didnt feel safe late at night walking through town late at night, and why were they there i wonder?

Ignorant nonsense from beginning to end. As for your description of Amsterdam as a 'criminal, scum infested, cesspit of a place ' I suggest you should withdraw that comment at your earliest convenience.

A quick glaucoma diagnosis from Dr Galigupta in Sri Lanka and it's Ojai so high...

Great news. Hopefully decent tourists will no longer have to deal with pyschotic stoners, and their criminal pals. But with $1 billion at stake i doubt if this new law will be enforced.

Red light districts of any major city tend to be rough.
