A very sad occurrence for the little cat and it's owner. If your cats, or other animals, get outside their chances of survival are slim. You either need to be 100% sure that they are confined indoors at all times (which most cats don't like), or that a secure space is constructed for them outdoors, preferably within a high walled garden. Care for our animal friends can become an expensive exercise, best not attempted without full security measures being put in place

Depends on the cat , I had a Tom which spent most of its time outside, with no special measures in place, he could go wherever he wanted, he used to go missing for days but always returned. There is no shortage of dogs out here in the sticks including my neighbours have 2 each and they love chasing cats but they left him well alone for some reason, He must have been at least 15 years old when he died last year of kidney disease,(a common cat problem)  but even towards the end when he was nothing but a bag of bones and could hardly walk the dogs never bothered him

"a garbage collector had cooked her deceased pet cat, Tao Hoo"

Tao hoo means tofu. It seems like he prepared tao hoo tod (เต้าหู้ทอด), a popular snack served with peanut dipping sauce.

That depends on where you live. Our cats live outside most of the time because we live in a rural area on a property that is open to the weather and the only rooms that are fully enclosed are the bedrooms. When they are not sleeping around the house they are outside in the jungle. All the cats are healthy and have never had any problems despite there being lots of other cats, dogs, and plenty of wildlife in the neighbourhood. They've learned how to look after themselves.

Good to hear from you and from Bday Prang. We have 6 cats and 5 dogs at our place in Rayong. We have a walled garden but the dogs and the younger cats often take off when the front gates are open. We have never lost one of them in over 10 years. In Bangkok we have a female Tabby, Tiger, who mainly lives outside. Some years ago she lost a rear leg in a roof fan but is still doing well. My advice earlier was really for those who live in busy, built up areas, with traffic, where the dangers to pets are numerous.

A TB.

The garbage collector tried to defend his actions by initially telling the lady it was chicken meow he was cooking

He only realised it was a cat when he got to the end of a drumstick and discovered a paw.

i have had cats all my life and would not want an indoor cat, in my experience, cats confined indoors are generally neurotic and unhealthy.

I'm willing to take some risks to share my space with a healthy, independent animal.

That said,  you need to spay or neuter your pets, or they almost always come to a premature, unpleasant end

with 1800 posts to your name how are you still unable to read and understand the OP   the cat was already dead,   I've attached the relevant paragraph for you

The suggestion of prosecuting somebody for letting the cat out is laughable, what offence has been committed , ? Its hardly negligent

I agree... the cat died from a dog attack... The garbage man only sought to collect payment for his retrieval of the corps and bringing it to her. I do not see any crime here. It is common for Thai to demand payment for finding someones property and returning it in any condition.

the OP dos not say the garbage man grilled the cat so I do not see any reason to be commenting so much about this. If you had a dead cat maybe you would bag it up or put it in a box. This man chose his way of not touching the dead animal was by placing it on a grill. Perhaps the only thing he had handy at the time. The OP does comment everything was intact when giving it to the woman. NOT grilled...

How could the waste collector know that this cat was belonging to someone?

I hope the taste was delicious 😂

Taste the same as chicken 😋

It was the right thing to do to burn it,   Can't have festering cat corpses lying around, whether he ate it or not is  irrelevant

In this case, almost looks like an extortion.

Once she tosses away her dead animal, that's it.

It no longer belongs to her; anyone can reclaim it.

End of story.

She got no grounds to demand paynpment.

Before commenting, why don't you read the article? No one put the cat in the rubbish. It was grabbed by the refuse collector from a third party's door.

The garbage collector should come to Australia, there is an abundance and a large variety of road  kill there.

Yep, could feast like a king every day on at least 4 or 5 main courses.

My Tom is the same way with the Soi dogs here. He seems to know how to manage them and they leave him alone.

Life claimed by an  unforseen incident(dog attack).

It is actually the fate of any free ranging cats.

They are constantly living with the risk of their sudden death.

In return for their freedom; able to explore own neighborhood at will at any time.

The owner of that cat should have known it in advance.

Her demand doesn't make any sense.

If she didn't want anyone to  reclaim her dead cat, she should have  buried it, instead of dumping it in garbage stream.

Once threw it away, she can no  longer c!aim her ownership of that thing.

If her dead cat saved someone from his hunger, it is a kind of making a good merit; what Thais call it Tang Bun(give away for someone else's salvation).

“A village security guard witnessed the attack and attempted to save the cat. Sadly, he could only place Tao Hoo's body near his office, intending to give it a proper burial. However, a refuse collector took the cat's body without permission.”

Where in the op does it say she threw it away?
