A 42-year-old motorcyclist was left injured in the early hours of the morning of 4 July, after crashing into an poorly marked and unlit construction zone along Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya.

 

The accident occurred at around 04:30, near the entrance to Soi Sukhumvit 85, directly opposite a Shell petrol station. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were called to the scene after reports of a man and motorcycle having plunged into a pit within an active construction area.

 

The injured man, identified as Mr Boonsom Haikrathok, suffered abrasions across his body and a serious fracture to his right leg. His orange Honda CBR motorcycle had fallen on top of him pinning at the top of the pit. Rescue personnel lifted the motorbike and provided first aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital.

 

According to Mr Boonsom, the stretch of road was completely dark due to a power outage affecting the streetlights and no working warning lights and limited signage had been placed around the ongoing drainage works. As a result, he was unable to see the open pit and collided directly with the construction barrier, sending him and the motorcycle tumbling into the hole.

 

Local residents have strongly criticised the contractor responsible for the site, accusing them of dangerous negligence. Many have pointed out the inadequate warning indicators and lighting in the area.

 

Authorities have documented the incident and are investigating the contractor’s compliance with public safety regulations. Meanwhile, local officials have promised to review the case and push for improved lighting and signage at construction zones across the city to prevent similar incidents in future.

Good for them, but whoever hired the contractor needs to be involved too. This is an all too common occurrence,

You got to ride/drive to the road conditions. 

If lights are out slow down. 

Often I see vehicles at speed, if something is around the corner, these vehicles won't stop. 

It's not just Thai's, I've got a few mates, do the same stupid thing. 

 

I swear some of these guys put on their amulet every morning and hope for the best. 🤞

For me this is synonym of "Thai person".  
Therefore, there is no any empathy for the deaths of Thais from me on the roads(road traffic incidents).

Treating traffic rules this way is like entering a cage with hungry lions and hoping that they won’t eat you.

Do you think workers and the police bought lottery tickets with the numbers from the poor guy's license plate? Or is it a bad idea on the contrary?
