That's low class language.

You are still completely obsessed with this topic, aren't you? You have made 44 posts now it seems, plus the other 20 troll posts that were already removed. You must have put in a solid 5 hours on this topic already already today. Have you taken any pee breaks at least? I am a bit confused though, before you said it was a stupid topic, but now its become your life's obsession? Noodle me that bro.

Incredible, another one of your extremely detailed, insightful and philosophically well-rounded responses. Can always rely upon you to add so much value to the discourse.

Whatever he's making in his retirement is more than the average local makes here anyway. Just to live here you need to make at least the minimum, or at least the locals think you do. No one knows how

Yes my 4wd is booked and awaiting. Too bad your 700 baht daily budget won't allow for it.

OP started an axe-grinding thread, phrased a question when he really wanted to express his hate/contempt/dislike for a certain group of people that are really none of his business.

Alway impresses me when a person resents those who have less than he does.

Here's an idea: MYOFB.

Mind your own farming business melon farmer.

I live in Bangkok and have a full-time job and I could care less what guys who are living their own life in rural areas are doing.

I wish them the best.

Well, glad you got that off your chest, do you feel better now? And according to Harris, I am flat broke, living in my mum's basement, can't even afford a ticket for the early matinee. So go figure.

Also, I live on a 700 Baht daily budget, if you don't believe me, just ask Harris. He's minted by the way.

Enjoy your day. 700 baht is 1/4 of my budget.

Now you are showing me photos of pickup trucks. Aren't those for farmers? Well, you are really weird bro.

How many more needless posts are you going to make, while stalking and trolling this topic, before you flounce off in a huff and post another one of your own earth shattering topics? What will it be? "Best things about bum guns"?

4wds are the best way to explore villages ie the topic in question. You will never know or go. 700 baht won't allow for it. The drive from Bueng Kan to Chiang Khan is fantastic. When I stop for a coffee I will think of you eating canned tuna and wishing you could go.

What did I miss?

This thread has degenerated into a biggest d*** contest?

A lot of Thais have less than me. I don't look down on them. That's their life.

And a lot of them are super nice, despite having next to nothing.

Meanwhile some rick folks are so obnoxious you can't tolerate them for more than 5 minutes.

People should be judged on their personality, not wealth or status.

And no need to look down on people with less or be envious with people with more.

There is no such thing as "equality". Everyone around you either has less or more. And so what? Just get on with your life and do the best you can with your life.

What was the point of this thread exactly?

OMG, absolute comedy gold. 😂

Seriously, do you ever read the drivel you post? It’s like something scribbled by a grade schooler with disabilities,

And the fact you think anyone on a forum could ever possibly envy you? That’s a mind-blowing level of childish delusion. I love it, though, never seen someone act like such a weird man-child. Keep it coming.

Oh, and by the way, I’m actually scraping by on 300 a day, just being real here. We can’t all be ballers like you, King Harris.

Not enough to hire a 4wd to visit a village. Car 750, hotel 400, food 300, fuel 300. You need 1750 a day to travel around Thai villages unless you use slow buses. 10 nights 17,500. Start in Udon drive to Bueng Kan then Chiang Khan. Back to Udon. Done. Then you will see villages, small towns and small cities.

Peasant. That is chump change. I'd be embarrassed you cheap Charlie.

It is really skint. Not sure how he makes things work on such a low budget. Maybe he's the kind of guy who can rub two nickels together and get a quarter out of it.

Some weird trolling replies to the OP......

I live in a rural area in south Thailand.  I spend about 20,000 baht/month on renting a detached house 10 minutes from a beach, $400k meecical insurance, internet, electricity and food.  That's all I need to spend - I don't need to spend any more than that for a healthy and enjoyable life as a single person.

My neighbours are village Thais, very friendly, always say hello.  They know that I'm a retired teacher and no doubt assume that I'm poor (which I'm not!).  I only need 1 pair of shoes - I only have 2 feet 🙂

$400k=400,000US$=Approximately 14 million THB. Alot of money for "medical insurance, internet, electricity and food"

Thai people are friendly. The 700 baht guy has no interest in visiting Thai villages. Non genuine topic. All his topics are just attention seeking.

Who doesn't seek attention?

The West is obsessed with status. So he is projecting his western mentality to Thailand.

A lot of Thais are not that well off .... or they certainly don't seem to behave like Westerners being obsessed with status. Then again, I don't hang out with too many hiso upper middle class Thais either. So maybe they are like Westerners. But probably not in villages.

One reason I like Thailand is getting away from the excessive obsession with status we have in the West.

And then what do you get? Westerners on an expat forum making fun of other Westerner's flip flops. I don't think the Thais notice your flip flops. Yeah, if you're dirty and never shower, maybe. There is a limit.

I’ve noticed there are some older foreigners who choose to settle in rural villages of Thailand on low retirement incomes. They often rely solely on a fixed government or state pension, may have little or no savings, shop mostly at fresh markets to keep costs down, and live quite frugally, sometimes wearing older or inexpensive clothing that doesn't present them so well.

So what?  It's called economizing.  What do Thai's think, and I'm speaking as a foreigner living in a rural Thai village?  The reality is that my "fixed income" (pensions from the government and my previous employer) puts me into the "well-to-do" category when compared to the villagers.  We have a rai of land and two houses, no debt, savings, and various investments.  I get along with villagers whom I've known for years although I'm a fairly private person.

So what do rural Thais think of me?  That's probably reflected in the status of my wife, who had she been under 60 years old, probably would be the head of the village.  She's highly active in both temple and village affairs, and I'd actually call her the defacto village head.  Why?  That's pretty much a direct cause of being financially solid due to her marriage to me, which gives her a leg-up in status and allows her to be active in village affairs.  So what do people think?  We're relatively high status.  Some people respect that; other probably like neither my wife or myself.
Do I freaking care what they think or what you think OP?  No - I do not. I'm not particularly fond of busy-bodies.

I find that people like the OP sort of remind me of Gladys Kravitz on Bewitched or Stanley & Helen Roper from Three's Company, and Ned Flanders from the Simpsons.  Dude's like the OP simply can't keep their noses out of other people's business and are endless critics of how those of us who are simply trying to live a good live in a country where a living a good life is affordable, unlike back in the freaking United State.

So OP.  Find a different hobby.  Throwing shade at the rest of us on social media who you seem to look down on simply reflects your own insecurities.  My guess is one of the only ways you find purpose in life is to demean other expats.  Screw that.  Really!

This is a farang forum. Why would they know what Thais in villages think of poor farangs? Most Thais don't give a stuff about farangs you know.

Because if you truly live in a rural Thai community and are part of that community, like any small town in the West, everyone knows everyone.  If you don't know what people think, you're living under a rock.  I don't live under a rock, I interact with the community although as I get older I tend to value my privacy and allow my wife to be the social advocate of the family.

Ha ha, this is quality 😂

I reckon we could call 80% (or more) of the members here Gladys Kravitz 👀

Another 15% are Ned Flanders

Anyway, I woke up with a hangover this morning

Do you like low life foreigners who cannot speak your native language living near you?

I bet Thais dislike them very much.

If I was in the United States and the "low-life foreigners who cannot speak my native language" but are in the country on a visa and living there legally?  I could care less.  It's their life, not mine.  I wish them success.  If they are living there illegally? I hope they get deported.  Not one bit different than here in Thailand. Perhaps you don't like "low life foreigners who cannot speak your native language living near you" in your own home country, but I'm not a racist. If foreigners are in my country legally - I wish them the best in their "pursuit of happiness."  And what nationalistic, xenophobic, ethnocentric Thais think of me?  Seriously, I really don't care, although I get along fine with the majority of villagers here.  What they think of me?  That's there business, and as I said, "I don't care."

Reality?  Even a farang who would be living on the streets in their home country, but can afford to live here, is solidly "middle class" by Thai standards. You may look down your snooty noses at them, but they are economically equal or above their Thai neighbors.

The opinions of other people are none of my business. Famous quote. If a person with a 4th grade education has an opinion that bothers you then happiness will never happen. People mostly think about themselves- Mark Manson. Doesnt anybody read?

I have a couple of mates who live rural, live within their means, are enjoying life and are loved by the locals, they get well treated and respected by locals who they inturn respect.

I went to a cave with mrs. I turn up in hiking boots. She wears flip flops and climbs over rocks like spiderman. After that i just wear flip flops.

Poor people are best to be avoided. Especially the foreign kind.

Yes, chicks wear their flip flops everywhere, you rarely see them in shoes, the skin on their feet is always so soft, not damaged.

I used to wear flip flops everywhere but found my feet getting damaged and skin around the heals cracking, rough.

Now I don't leave home without wearing shoes.

Exactly. You can't dress up that much here like back home to show off how rich you are.

It's too hot.
