A Thai woman suffered serious injuries when iron rods fell from a pickup truck and pierced her head while riding a motorcycle in Khon Kaen province.

Dashcam footage of the alarming incident has been widely shared on Thai social media, causing concern among motorists, particularly bikers. The video shows 21-year-old Wanna parking her motorcycle near a pickup laden with long iron rods, which unexpectedly slid off and struck her.

Speaking to Channel 7, Wanna recounted that the incident took place at 9:30 am on Wednesday, 2 July, on Jaeng Samit Road in Khon Kaen’s Ban Phai district. Waiting at an intersection to cross the road, she had just parked her bike when disaster struck. Within minutes, the iron rods fell, aiming towards her forehead. In a quick reflex to protect her eyes, she turned her head, resulting in the rods piercing her right temple.

The pickup driver rushed to assist Wanna, admitting he had not secured the rods properly. Nearby residents and motorists called for emergency help, and Wanna was swiftly taken to hospital. There, she received six stitches for a forehead wound and two more for her temple.

The accident has left Wanna unable to work. No compensation has been offered by the driver, despite his apology, leaving her without income and fearing job loss. Doctors have warned that her wounds will scar, and she is urging the driver to cover medical costs for potential surgery.

Local police have intervened to mediate compensation discussions. The driver faces charges of reckless driving, a crime that could lead to a fine of up to 10,000 baht (approximately 267,000 Thai Baht) or one month in prison. Moreover, he may be liable for damages to Wanna's motorcycle under Section 420 of the Civil and Commercial Code, requiring financial restitution for property damage.

As authorities continue to handle the repercussions of this unfortunate event, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers on roads and the importance of securing loads safely.
