A man was left in critical condition after being struck by a lorry while crossing a busy highway near Pattaya on the evening of 10 July. Witnesses reported the victim was on his mobile phone at the time of the collision.

The incident occurred at approximately 17:05 on Highway 331, inbound towards Bowin, in the Sattahip-Khao Hin Son area. Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit were called to the scene following reports of a pedestrian collision.

At the scene, a six-wheeled Isuzu lorry loaded with scaffolding was found parked at the roadside. The driver, Mr Apirat Rattanapha 41, remained at the location and cooperated with authorities.

The victim, identified as Mr Surapong Klomking 42, of Nakhon Ratchasima, was discovered lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries. Rescue teams administered emergency first aid before rushing him to a nearby hospital.

According to Mr Apirat, he had been en route to deliver scaffolding to Si Racha when Mr Surapong suddenly walked into the road, seemingly engrossed in a phone conversation. Despite sounding the horn and attempting to brake, he was unable to avoid the collision.

CCTV footage reviewed by authorities showed the victim stepping off the pavement while on the phone, narrowly avoiding an SUV in the left-hand lane before moving into the path of the lorry in the right-hand lane, where he was struck.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
