A fire broke out on the afternoon of 13 July, at an automotive repair shop, just outside of Pattaya, causing significant damage and prompting a rapid response from emergency services.

The blaze began at approximately 16:00, at a row of single-storey commercial units located near the entrance to Soi Phonpraphanimit 19 on Soi Siam Country Club, near Planet Football, Nong Prue, Chonburi province. The affected premises included a tyre shop, a car repair garage and a motorcycle service centre, all of which were closely adjoined.

According to initial reports, the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials, particularly rubber tyres stored on-site. Witnesses described hearing intermittent explosions as the flames engulfed the buildings.

Firefighters and volunteers from local disaster prevention and mitigation units were dispatched to the scene and worked strenuously to control the inferno. By 16:45, officials reported that the fire had been brought under control, although considerable damage had already occurred.

UPDATE
Car Fire Destroys Pattaya Auto Shop, After Chinese Owner Puts in Wrong Fuel

A fire engulfed a car repair shop, Sompot Services, on Phonprapha Nimit Road (Soi Siam Country Club) on the afternoon of 13 July, destroying eight vehicles and causing damage estimated in the millions of baht. The blaze is believed to have originated from a white Toyota Alphard belonging to a Chinese national, after the wrong type of fuel was added to the vehicle.

The incident occurred at around 16:00. Witnesses reported seeing flames erupt from the Alphard, while mechanics were attempting to drain the vehicle’s fuel. Moments later, explosions were heard as the fire quickly spread, consuming seven cars and one motorcycle. A neighbouring property also sustained damage.

Footage captured by local residents shows thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Firefighters from Nong Prue Municipality rushed to the scene with six fire engines, managing to bring the blaze under control within 30 minutes. One person inside the shop sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that flammable fuel vapours may have ignited during the draining process, possibly triggered by a spark or static discharge. Police are awaiting a detailed forensic examination to confirm the exact cause of the fire.

Could someone explain what is the wrong fuel for an Alphard? One that would burst into flames in the tank?

Where in the report does it say it “burst into flames in the tank”?

“Witnesses reported seeing flames erupt from the Alphard, while mechanics were attempting to drain the vehicle’s fuel”

”Preliminary investigations suggest that flammable fuel vapours may have ignited during the draining process, possibly triggered by a spark or static discharge”

As the Alphard is normally only available in petrol model, I would assume the owner filled it will diesel. The mechanic was draining a diesel/petrol mix, which was within the flammable range and came into contact with an ignition source.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them smoked upon process

Completely normal.

At the firework festival here last month bystanders smoking and watching the big one being stuffed with black powder.
