In Chaiyaphum, police are under scrutiny after detaining a teenage biker in a seemingly forceful manner at a petrol station. The incident sparked debate online about the appropriateness of the officers' actions.

On 13th July, following a long holiday weekend, groups of modified motorcycle riders took to the streets in Tephasit, Bamnet Narong, and Nong Bua Khok in Chaiyaphum. Residents reported the gatherings, leading police to investigate a large group congregating at a PTT petrol station in Bamnet Narong.

As police approached, most bikers dispersed, but the incident drew attention when a bystander captured footage questioning the level of force used by the police, which was then shared online.

The public divided in opinion, with some supporting law enforcement duties, while others felt the response was excessive.

Upon investigation, police discovered that the rider in question, a 16-year-old referred to as Mr. S., tested positive for drugs after crashing into officers, injuring them.

Mr. S. admitted to drug use and attempted to flee due to fear of arrest. He expressed remorse, stating he came from Korat to ride with friends and now accepts the legal consequences.

The Chaiyaphum police noted the challenges of managing noise and disturbances from such motorcycle trips and are working with local authorities to enhance traffic regulation to minimise future disruptions.
