A 30-year-old man is on the run after fatally stabbing his father during a heated argument over stolen rice, which the suspect allegedly sold to buy methamphetamine. The shocking incident occurred on the evening of 13 July in Khwao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Maha Sarakham Province.

Emergency responders were called to the scene at around 20:30, where they found Mr Prawit 53, in critical condition within the grounds of his home. He had been stabbed in the right side of his chest, with the knife puncturing his lung. Despite efforts to rush him to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

According to investigators from Mueang Mahasarakham Police Station, the attacker was identified as Mr Wanchana, the victim’s biological son. Following the stabbing, he fled the scene with the weapon in hand.

Mrs Waew 66, the victim’s wife and mother of the suspect, told police she had been inside the house at the time of the attack. She overheard a loud quarrel between father and son outside. The argument reportedly stemmed from Mr Wanchana stealing rice from the household to sell in order to buy methamphetamine. Mr Prawit, angry that the family was left with no food, harshly scolded his son, which allegedly triggered the violent response.

After stabbing his father, the suspect reportedly walked away from the house shouting, “That felt so good!” Witnesses said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Police have launched an urgent manhunt for Mr Wanchana, who remains at large and is believed to still be in a drug-induced psychotic state. Authorities have warned local residents to remain vigilant, as the suspect may pose a danger to others. Officers are focusing their search in nearby areas, fearing further violence if he is not apprehended soon.
