I'm sorry to hear about the robbery, but what can you expect when you bring people (three of them) back to your hotel room by promising them you'll pay them for sex? Pattaya is disgusting! 👎

What is disgusting is SOME of the people that Pattaya attracts.

What was meant to be a peaceful holiday turned into a nightmare for a 61-year-old British tourist in Pattaya after he was lured into a trap and robbed of more than 12,500 baht in cash.

Mr Chris John Glennon, who is mute and reliant on a motorised wheelchair, fell victim to a group of three suspects,  believed to be  two women and one transgender, who allegedly deceived him into returning to his hotel room with them (...)

Very risky! Why did he do that?

Stupid and insensitive comment.

You think they said, "Hey, baby.  How about we head back to your hotel room and then rob you of all your cash while you sit helpless and defenceless in a wheelchair?  Does that sound like fun to you?"

Thailand is full of friendly and honest people.  It's also full of women who are willing to have sex with unattractive old men in exchange for money.  Is it so wild to think that the two might exist together and offer to go back to his hotel with him for a bit of fun?

The level of repeat custom suggest that there exists a lot of women who offer a great level of customer service.

No, but being disabled and taking three(!) strangers (of this kind of trade, not less) to his room, while having all the cash (probably) just lying around... C'mon!

At least he should have put the money in a safe.

Is Pattaya the crime center of Thailand, does it attract primarily guys that have no survival skills, or is there just a lot of news that's emanating out of  Pattaya these days?

Pattaya has the most extensive English language social media and yellow journalism coverage of any destination in Thailand. Despite Bangkok and Phuket having  significantly  greater populations and more tourists we see more "crime" news for Pattaya is  part because of that. Another key factor is that Pattaya attracts a specific demographic of foreigners. One is more likely to find a higher concentration of people from  the lower socio economic tier, an age  group,  physical and mental health status, and intelligence range in Pattaya, and the crimes and death reflect that demographic. Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and  Phuket do not attract as many single males as Pattaya. Having one's spouse or g/f or family with them dampens down the likelihood of  problems.

Not everybody is rich being in a wheelchair; he is most properly on an invalid pension.

People being a bit harsh on the bloke. He's in a wheelchair, he's a mute and perhaps not the full quid. Not sure if he landed in Thailand with a carer or not.

Maybe had a few guinesses and became far more vulnerable than 99% of us. The money stolen was probably most of his budget here so now left with nothing and on a disability pension.

Wanted to enjoy himself in Patts like most do when they come on holiday, only difference is this guy can't stick up for himself like we can.

It's a low act by the three of them, hope they get caught. But sounds like he's not staying in a decent hotel if no ID was collected. I also hope he learns from this.

The guy surely has challenges. Criminals seem capable of stooping  very low here, perhaps some dependency involved.

Some of these ladyboys are so desperate they have to resort to thieving, robbing people, mugging this old guy was the lowest they could get, he was a bit stupid to take them back but thats no excuse to rob him

Nicked his shirt as well.

Sorry about what happened to the guy, but does being in a wheelchair prevent him showing a little respect by not being shirtless in public and wearing at least a T shirt?

"Police at Pattaya City Police Station are urgently hunting the three suspects and have appealed to the public for assistance. Anyone with information about the incident or the identities of those involved are urged to contact authorities immediately."

How to assist without telling the public the name of the hotel ?

Exactly my point, the man is in a police station. I wouldn't sit in a bar with a fat old man with no shirt on.

Being in a wheelchair does not give you a free pass.

Every foreigner is recorded in a centralised computer register. If a foreigner commits a crime, chances are that s/he can be found. The same should happen to ALL transgender women (or whatever they are) in Pattaya because so many of them are carrying out criminal activities. Anyone who has a sex change should be fingerprinted and photographed. I wouldn't dare to converse with one of them in Pattaya because the transgender is likely to have a fellow transgender behind me about to rob me.

This is a lot of money to MANY people. In my case, it can buy for my 26 cats 71 packets of cat treats (enough for maybe 3 years) or 9 x 20 kgs of dried cat food (1 bag per 3 weeks) or 379 cans of wet cat food (enough for a year @ 1 can per day).

If the sum is of no consequence to you, please send the amount to Catdom's Chief Accountant:

Nope, I don’t think that.

i do thank that they were all returning to his hotel room for paid sex. As agreed by all of them. So no deception there.

If he did that of his own free will with strangers, then he exposed himself to a big risk. I don’t have much sympathy for him.

Call it “insensitive “ but when I see stupidity, I call it that.

I doubt there was much deception involved in terms of returning to his hotel room. Pretty sure he was happy about having 3 prostitutes for the night.

i feel sorry for him, but the risks involved in what he did are pretty high. Even in a family friendly resort like Pattaya.

Punters get all excited 2 3 4 women 😘😘

That's now 4 6 8 thieving hands. Guaranteed with that crowd you're never going to be able to stash your belong safely in your room unless it's in a safe.

I understand the appeal but bringing two or three women back to your room is just a horrible idea unless you know them from past liaison and even then...

I don't think handicapped people should be visiting foreign countries alone for a variety of reasons. Especially people in wheelchairs. It rather inconveniences everyone around them constantly. They might seem independent, but it's due to the good nature of others to help.

That small amount of independence they still have left, you want to take that away from them.

Shame on you. :bah:

Not at all. They can do anything they want and go anywhere they wish and I impose their issues on their countrymen.

Seems to me if they are traveling internationally they should be able to deal with anything that comes about and I do need anything such as this instance. That might take a person that is not invalid to travel with them

I've seen a number of wheelchairs toppled over here in Thailand where the person was laid out helpless in the street and requiring strangers help

Within the past few months I saw some guy with crutches who was drunk fall down and hurt himself and needed others to help him up. He went on a further 20 m and fell again. At that point no one bothered.

I also saw some really really obese guy fall down and couldn't get himself back up. It was because he was so fat not because he was injured. He laid on the filthy soi 4 curbside until he felt like he could lift himself back up. That was going to take so much time that by then I left.

Perhaps you can follow them around in a nursing uniform?

your expectation should be you are getting robbed.

even at a bar if you talk to a girl and she hits you....your expectation should be getting hit.   be happy they even look at you

expectations here are to be down-voted

if you aren't robbed you aren't trying

he should pay them every day forever just because they talked to him

or, we should follow some laws.

as a judge, just tell his family he was robbed, disgraced, humiliated, and should smile.

risks involved.
