Thailand’s first National Village Security Volunteer (Chor Ror Bor – CHRB) Day was held with great fanfare at the Sports Authority of Thailand’s football ground in Sisaket Province, drawing more than 4,000 security volunteers from four provinces.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Phumtham Wechayachai, who praised the role of the Chor Ror Bor units in maintaining grassroots security across rural Thailand.

However, the celebratory mood was briefly interrupted when a deranged man suddenly ran into the centre of the performance area during a traditional northeastern dance segment. In response, CHRB officers acted swiftly and professionally, deploying trained volunteers equipped with control poles.

Attempts at negotiation were unsuccessful, prompting the officers to subdue the man using tactical restraint methods. This training exercise highlighted the training and response of the CHRB, to the observers present.

Despite the brief disruption, the event continued as planned. In his closing remarks, Mr. Phumtham presented awards of excellence to outstanding CHRB members from across the nation, recognising their dedication and contributions to community safety.

The National CHRB Day marks a significant step in recognising and empowering Thailand’s village-based security forces, who serve as the first line of defence in rural areas.
