Panic erupted on the morning of 21 July, when a ferry crossing the Chao Phraya River experienced a reported, boiler explosion while carrying a full load of passengers between Phra Samut Chedi and Pak Nam.

According to a report posted by the local Facebook page “We Love Phra Samut Chedi,” the incident occurred at approximately 07:00 near the estuary section of the river, close to Phisuea Samut Fort.

The ferry, which was operating a regular passenger service, suffered a sudden boiler explosion mid-journey. Though there were no reports of serious injuries or fatalities, several passengers were scalded by hot water during the incident. Rescue services were not immediately required, and most injuries were described as minor.

Witnesses described a loud bang followed by steam and panic as passengers scrambled to distance themselves from the engine area.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is expected to follow. Ferry services along the route have not been suspended but will be subject to increased safety checks.
