What do they call Thai people who don't have much money?   What should we call a person who berates someone who is not at a financial level that they consider normal?

I quite like sitting on the 7/11 steps drinking a beer with my cheese and ham toastie at 7am, the locals don't seem to bother, they always give me a smile.

Actually I always thought the phrase was "Khee Ngok" which translates to stingy. Its interchangeable with Khee Ngiaw...But half the damn foreigners saying it can't pronounce an "ng" to sound save their lives...hence this thread.

My Thai girlfriend taught me to say this many years ago when repeatedly getting hustled to buy stuff at the beach: 'Pom kee nok farang. Mai mee satang!'. They don't expect to hear this from a farang and when they get over the shock it usually raises a laugh. It certainly gives me a laugh to see the expression on their face...😂.

That's a different phrase. That's Khee Neow that means stingy. Learn some basic Thai. You clearly need it.

You obviously are one of the ones that can't pronounce NG.  Go take a class toy boy

Ngok means stingy.  Nok means bird.  Dunce-ski.  Now tell me how bird sh!t relates to being stingy

to the topic ... I wouldn't know.

Isn't that like asking someone if they're an Ahole ?

No, ngok means miserly.  khi ngok means cheapskate (habitually miserly). In the bars that's what they are referring to because many foreigners can't afford high prices. I was confused, too, until I hung out at one beer bar for a long time and practiced speaking Thai there. It's hard for Americans to hear the difference from khi nok, or bird <deleted>.

I thought it meant that one is cheap, like a Cheap Charlie. When buying stuff or sharing things. Well now I know!

I'm familiar with that expression but my Thai friends call me Law...
