I don't mean this as a pointed question, though it may sound that way...

 

When you look at your plane ticket (assuming it breaks out all the fees), how do Changi's charges compare with Swampy's?  I'm surprised at what a low percentage of the total fees go to Thailand.  The other side (mostly US airports) have much higher fees.

So many plans to do so much. And yet as we speak the airport is operating at over capacity in terms of volume of passengers and to the eye of even a casual observer, bursting at the seams.

 

So that is now, how many years till the plans become reality? But in the meantime, keep adding airlines to the list and stay number one.

Is that a serious question? They fly via other airlines and airports to airports with services to BKK. That's how air travel works. It's via regional hub airports and code shares and alliances. It's not possible for every flight to be a non-stop affair, especially since the US and Canada are more remote than Australia.

Quite telling that when I recently arrived back from KUL, the toilets there were immaculate while those on arrival in BKK were all cracked and broken with outdated fixings.

 

SIN and DOH next level even for public toilets but different story.

That looks like Seattle. So there is no direct service from any other city in North Or South America to Thailand. So few Americans go to Thailand to warrant a direct service. Out of interest then where are the hubs that American airlines fly to?

I assume that there is so few Americans going to Thailand The is no where need enough demand for direct flights or a US hub. Japan's Singapore Hong Kong and Korea's advantage I guess

agree, and agree on the cleaning, though for me the pared back, steel emphasised architecture doesn't create a warm welcoming ambience, but it wasn't designed by a thai architect so you can't blame thais for that 😁

Oh no, it has a long approach road! How awful, that makes it a terrible airport.  And confusing? My 16 year old daughter just flew to the UK and back (via Dubai) on her own and found it a breeze. 

I find access to Suvarnabhumi really good. Nice wide roads, no traffic lights on the journey, no traffic jams (apart from a slight slowdown where the 9 merges with the 7). Easy, and close to the city. A train that costs a dollar also goes right in to the basement directly under departures.

The car parks can be busy - especially during long weekends - but are good, cheap, and very very close to the terminal and even have air conditioned walkways. Never have an issue parking. And now there are machines that scan your parking ticket and tell you where you parked in case you forget (I am sure this would be handy for you as you are confused even by a super simple airport terminal). In the UK at most major airports you pay £7 - 300 baht - just to pull up and drop someone off!!! You can park for a day at Suvarnabhumi for that.

I think Suvarnabhumi is a perfectly acceptable airport and undergoes continuous improvement. Immigration keeps getting better, security gets faster, the e-gates now are a massive improvement, as is the facial recognition if you choose to use it. It's far from the best airport in the world, but it keeps improving and it's pretty decent. Also a great selection of lounges, better than most.

What I don't like is it feels a little "cold". And I would love for them to replace the floor tiles as they are a bit grubby in places. The new SAT terminal has carpets and feels much warmer.

Finally, the Asean Now Thai-bashers paradise - Changi. Yes, it is good, but service is poor, it is expensive. And I have had some terrible immigration experiences, waiting up to an hour on entry. And no toilets in the boarding areas. Oh yeah, and it has a long access road - THE HORROR!!!!

You referenced KUL and BKK toilets. These airports are maybe two and a half hours apart, gate to gate. There are toilets on the airplanes too.

 

Maybe you have bladder issues. Maybe you can start a new thread about the best airport toilets.

The fact they commisioned it, approved its design and paid for it is evidence enough to prove blame, if indeed any is due

 

Personally I dont find it to be dislikable. It's not the best and certainly by no means the worst airport I've travelled through.
