In most countries, King Power would have been taken to court decades ago, as their prices are clearly NOT duty free, thus false advertising.

BS, they can be duty free but just expensive (= big profit margin)

Good riddance! Once in my life I actually wanted to shop there last year. Almost bought a bottle of cheap Australian red wine there. Staff gave the bottle to cashier, both mocking me, cause the bottle

  • So duty free that it was more expensive than in a normal shop

  • Other than sheer boredom, I don't understand why anyone shops at the airport now that you can order just about anything online at a better price and not have to carry it with you.   The only

Compared to King Power Rip-off outlets you might be interested to learn, that i.e. luxury watches are cheaper in town, when those department stores (i.e. Central, The Mall, Terminal 21 etc.) run watch fair promotions.

The profits hauled in by King Power must have been enormous given the fact, that the watches in town are taxed with 5% import duty and 7% VAT - just saying.

Think that the shops in town pay a bit less rent than airport shops (in most if not all countries).

I think their biggest customers are the Chinese. Now that the Chinese tourist numbers are down, they would expect the downturn in the business. After all, let's face it, they are 50-100% more expensive than the shops downtown Bangkok.

The only thing i buy would be cigarettes or tobacco and if i needed some whisky then i would wait  till outside .7/11 is much cheaper

Going, going, gone ... the sooner the better.

The duty free shop which is more expensive than buying at a normal shop, or online as some have noted.

Even duty-free shops in French airports are more expensive (without VAT) than regular shops in town (with VAT). I never buy perfume or alcohol at duty-free shops
