BANGKOK - On 22nd July at the Eastin Grand Hotel, Phayathai, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra delivered a special lecture, reminiscing about his political journey. Reflecting on his past experiences, he drew parallels between the current political climate and that of 51 years ago.

Thaksin emphasised that the current coalition government faces challenges due to its slim majority. However, he is confident that unity and shared commitment to addressing national issues can maintain stability and strength.

Recalling his early political role from 51 years ago, Thaksin noted the efforts he made to ensure party unity during crucial votes. He acknowledged past incidents where party alliances shifted but stressed today’s coalition remains strong, with leaders committed to cooperation.

He touched on economic mismanagement and bureaucratic complexities as significant challenges facing the government. Thaksin noted the need for decisive government action and urged ministers to engage closely with MPs and their constituencies to drive effective policies.

Additionally, Thaksin expressed concerns about cannabis regulation, highlighting its potential impact on tourism. He called for thorough oversight to safeguard public interests while capitalising on economic opportunities.

Offering his extensive experience as a resource, Thaksin pledged to assist ministers and MPs by providing advice and support to advance national progress. He reiterated his dedication to fostering a collaborative political environment where collective efforts can yield significant benefits for Thailand.

Which all reads as a desperate plea to remain relevant and to keep his daughter where she is, albeit on a string.

He has caused more unrest than any other politician during his 51 years. Most of it as now unwanted.
