Born and raised in Hawaii, I grew up in a multi-ethnic society where I learned to eat a variety of foods.  I wasn't the typical white (haole) person and was welcomed wherever I went because I ate anything and everything.  I was invited to parties where I was the only white person.

When I returned from military service I  began work in the construction industry that was dominated by local Japanese.  I worked for companies where I was the only white person.  Mostly, I was treated fairly and rose through the ranks eventually becoming a building superintendent, before starting my own company.

During this period of my life, Hawaii lost two of it's major industries, sugar and pineapple, which was replaced by tourism and the military.  Over time an influx of people from the mainland brought their own ways, a culture that was counter to the easy going local lifestyle.  Money became more important than friendship.  This is what visitors face today.

Income taxes and taxes on the visitor industry are among the highest in the country.  I yearn for the good old days.  Fortunately, my sons are financially able to live here because they are like me.  They get along with everyone, no matter their skin color.  Yes, it takes a special person to survive and thrive here.

Do you have any black friends?

If they offered me a free house, car, and a monthly stipend, I would NOT return to the U.S. First of all, it isn't the U.S. now. There is nothing 'united' about America today. Not the people, not

  • So much drama in your response. First of all, no one will offer you free car, house and money. You are not required to eat out in restaurants.    What I do dislike about paying for take out

When towns, States, countries start offering very cheap land, $1 houses or high paid jobs to tempt people to move there, it's because others have given it up and headed for greener pastures. Free is not worth it!

The USA has evolved from a democracy to a plutocracy. only idiots would want to move there now. Even the naive and profoundly stupid MAGA base are finally starting tp realize they have served their purpose and are the victims of the economic and fascist state outcomes.

When the whole system eventually implodes and reverts to what it was prior to WW11, they will realize thay are not the greatest.  The biggest economies will come from Asia, Africa and South America.

Can you define fascist?   I'll wager you have no idea what the term means.

As for the question of Jails or concentration camps, we never had them in America before, not even during the Japanese Internment.

What do YOU call this cage if not a concentration camp? Might be fine for other countries. Not fine in America. Our laws do not even permit farm animals to be treated like this.

Looking over your comment history, I'm not seeing Mensa Society, so you might want to pull back a little, as you might be speaking to the guy in the bathroom mirror.

So if I ever move back to what was the US (I suspect a number of States will secede before 2028), how can I pretend to be a MAGA?

I figure drop 50-75 IQ points, add 30-50 kg in adipose tissue, toss out my entire wardrobe and replace it with what I can get at Mike's Shopping Mall in Pattaya.....anything else?

When I see MAGAs in Thailand, the look is always obese, dumb and dressed like a 5 year old Isaan schoolkid. They also seem to like flame tatts on their flabby arms, but I doubt any women are impressed. Most are drunk by noon, too.

I guess in MAGAstan all that is called "livin' the dream".

Spell correctly and look in the mirror would be the first place to look for a MAGA dimwit in your situation!

You never had concentration camps during the American civil war ?

Hey, didn't FDR put Japanese American citizens in concentration camps in the '40s?

The left loved that POC FDR, but they go crazy and start spewing idiotic nonsense about due process and whatnot when Trump tries to legally deport criminals.

Yes because the Japanese has attacked Pearl Harbour!

Slightly different situation now!

10 minutes ago, Thingamabob said:

No they did not'

The term concentration camp originates from the Spanish–Cuban Ten Years' War (1868) when Spanish forces detained Cuban civilians in camps in order to more easily combat guerrilla forces.

American citizens of Japanese descent did not attack Pearl Harbor.

What a sad response!

Have you never studied history and read what a country does to citizens of another country living inside it's country when attacked by that other country?

It is done to prevent what is called stopping imbedded spies and/or 5th columnists infiltrating the country.

I call B.S. It was racism. German and Italian Americans weren't treated that way.

Go read your history!

During World War II, the US government classified individuals of German and Italian descent as "enemy aliens" and subjected them to various restrictions and internment, similar to the treatment of Japanese Americans.

Wrong!
There were NOT concentration camps for all German and Italian Americans. They did NOT have their property, money, and businesses stolen en masse. I get that you're maga but sorry you DO NOT get the rewrite history in racist maga terms. I knew some Japanese Americans victims of this when I was growing up and they were traumatized for life.

BTW, I'm a big fan of MOST of what FDR did both in the war and the new deal (now being assaulted by the maga fascists). But no leader is perfect.

You had to bring MAGA into this!

So sad for your type that you have to deflect in this way.

End of lack of any possible meaningful discussion!

It's natural that a person with a maga cult perspective would try to whitewash history in the same way that the Trump regime is actively and aggressively doing right now. There is a strong and real connection.

Good point re American Japanese during WW2. What a way to treat loyal US citizens.

You do know here is a monumental difference between peace time laws and laws at the time of war....what am I saying....obviously not.

I'm guessing they detained illegal aliens?

Under the US Constitution they are not illegal until adjudicated illegal and even then the law provides for asylum prescribed by the rule of law.
