A Bit Ticked Off...

Featured Replies

Well..im a bit ticked off..and i im not sure if its against rules to even be able to talk about it.

I couldnt even tag onto the "Having A Bad Day?, Or week..." thread, which was my intention, rather than spout off on a new topic. That just adds to my irritation.

So..anyway..is the Bedlam zone also a place no members may express frustration with certain TV moderators moderations... ?

If you have an issue eek, why not pm the mod first.

Contrary to belief, they are not cyber androids but humans who have feelings and compassion :o

Edit, scrubbed slanderous word

Oh..can I just say that I would never state a mods name here, or even hint as to who it/they could be. Its more that I just wanted to voice an irritation with the way things are sometimes handled.

Tbh i would feel silly pming a mod about some of the things that wind me up, and its really not directed at any one person.

One of the things that frustrate me is where there isnt consistancy. For example a while back I posted a thread with an external link, which was useful and appreciated by other members, then it disappeared. After another post I received a pm saying it was under review (fair enough and appreciated the pm). Replied and left it to the powers that be. The post never materialised. Again, fair enough. BUT, then a few weeks later, a different member posted the same link, and it was allowed. Even had mods saying 'good link'. Ok Ok..no biggie really, but can be a bit frustrating when you take the time to write up a post to have it swept away, only to have someone post the same thing a little later down the line.

Another thing is how occasionally a mod can be a tad harsh when it seems unnecessary. Jumping to conclusions or making threatening comments. Or worse, when i see members given a 'holiday' when it doesnt really seem justified. It would be nice to mods to explain why someone is banned for a week on the thread that they feel caused offense. Rather than just stating "you have a weeks holiday". Sometimes i see "you have a weeks holiday, whos next?" stuff too. I believe moderators should keep a cool head, even if things are bothering them or causing offense. Occasionally i get the impression personal feelings have overridden judgement.

NOw..before anyone things im on a mod bashing crusade, im not. Infact i think ALL mods do a good job, just that sometimes some of them let their emotions get the better of them..or they jump to conclusions. Just would be nice to see consistancy and also for them to not lose their heads, even within difficult threads.

Well..heres hoping im not giving a "holiday" for expressing my opinion on the subject.

eek, I'm a mod on another forum. Even on there (which is so, so much smaller!) it can be difficult. I actually took a break from it for a couple of weeks a while back because one member was continually sniping at me & I found it hard to be objective with him.

Mods are human*. They have good days (weeks) & bad ones, same as all of us. That doesn't mean to say that I agree 100% with all decisions. I disagreed with a thread of mine being taken down a little while ago. All I'm saying is, I can't even imagine reading through the amount of posts on TV every single day, coping with any stresses in your own life, and still being as objective as you can be. The other problem is, as a mod, if you tell someone what you think of them, personally, it can be automatically upgraded to a "moderator opinion". I dunno - mod on TV = difficult job, IMO.

Edit - apologies. * should read "Mods are human, apart from Wolfie who is Lord of Darkness & sbk who is an angel :D Sorry for getting that wrong, folks. :o

Mebbe outgoing...

Itty Bitty Dancing Kitty -- Listen to NR. Don't question rulings (not allowed) and keep on dancing. Oh, that was a 70s disco tune...shake your bootie ya! Priscilla.

I dunno.

I think Eek should get a holiday - give her time to think about what she has said here, the importance of being earnest, and to contemplate her future path in life.

Okay?

:D:o

I was going to make a comment but it seems NR has said it all.

Mods are human beings just like you and me. It is not an easy job, I can imagine. I have been given holidays 2 or 3 times here and I never have a grudge. I still feel very grateful for the work they are doing so as to provide me with such a precious website.

:o Do we have a throw-up smiley for grovelling?

Now I have always thought the little icon you are using now means throwing up. Jesus, and I've been using it all the time!

Oh yeah, it made me go 'Urrgghh!

It would be really difficult to get consistent moderation, when you take into account that there are over 40 Mods/Admin on the site, and they are on at different times from different places of course.

Some are more experienced than others. Some notice things that others might miss.

In your case, one may have noticed the link and removed the post, but someone else may have reviewed the other post (by the different member but with the same link) and not noticed it or allowed it.

Many items of a contentious nature are discussed by them in private, but again, not all are online at the same time.

When I used to teach Junior Leadership Courses (which qualified people to the Sergeant level), we had to attend a week long "Standardisation" course before each new course started. We taught (to each other) the lessons that we taught the students, and graded each other (as well as being graded by the Standards staff). This helped to make sure we were all on the same page (consistent) when it came to marking the students.

Unfortunately, I don't think they can do anything like that here (unless George were to sponsor week long Mod Seminars at various locations around the country, every couple of months). :o

Can we discuss moderating issues in this thread?

had a post deleted because I mentioned that most of the people signing up for the Phuket party had less than 5 posts and bunches only had 1. Gone, not even a PM to me explaining what rule I'd transgressed.

I noticed that too, and thought it was strange. Possibly some members wanted to preserve their anonymity and re-registered for the sole purpose of making their reservations.

Or, a troll trying to cause the BBQ caterer to over-order sausages and bread.
