A shocking hit-and-run incident on Bearing Road has left a 30-year-old motorcyclist injured after a speeding pickup truck slammed into the rear of his motorcycle, dragged him for several metres and then fled the scene.

The crash occurred on Bearing Road between Soi 58 and 56 in the Samrong Nuea subdistrict of Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province. CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the chilling moment when Mr Pichitchai Khotruechai, 30, was struck from behind by a pickup truck while riding his white-and-red Honda Zoomer-X motorcycle.

The force of the impact was so great that the victim’s helmet was flung off. His body landed on the bonnet of the pickup and then fell onto the road under the front of the pickup, which then reversed briefly, dragging his injured body further, before speeding off toward Bearing Junction. Several witnesses attempted to chase the fleeing vehicle, including another motorcyclist, but the suspect managed to escape.

A local journalist’s dashcam also recorded the sound of screeching brakes as the pickup reversed and fled. In the footage, bystanders can be seen hurling a traffic cone at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but to no avail. The front of the pickup was reportedly damaged from the collision.

Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, where they found Mr Pichitchai, a native of Phon Sawan District in Nong Khai Province, suffering from multiple abrasions. He was given first aid and transported to Paolo Samut Prakan Hospital for further treatment.

The victim later explained he had been travelling from Phraek Sa to pick up his girlfriend from Soi Bearing 34 and was just minutes away when the collision occurred. A passing motorcycle taxi rider who witnessed the crash confirmed that the pickup had been speeding and struck the motorbike from behind without warning.

The motorcycle was left damaged, with the rear smashed in and scrape marks across the body of the vehicle.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the hit-and-run driver and have appealed to the public for any additional information. Charges of reckless driving causing injury and fleeing the scene of an accident are expected to be filed once the perpetrator is located.
