Just like during Covid when Expats here were treated dismally and unfairly (I got out early), the situation under such a situation will not be good.

I was supposed to be here for 2 months (April/May 2020) but ended up arriving early and staying 18 months, and think it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  Those both here and there I've spoken to since then agree.

I still know some blokes who were stuck here in 2020/21 (and one who died) and they had lots of problems and issues. This forum was full of stories about the troubles Expats had.  Good luck to you - and maybe you were very very lucky - but I dont believe you.

I was here all through covid and I wasn't treated 'dismally' or 'unfairly'.  Quite the opposite, actually.  I know for a fact that I got the covid shots before many Thais did, and they were free.  I did elect to get a booster shot later on, which I had to pay for--but so did my Thai spouse.  I can't think of a single instance where I was treated any differently than a Thai was during covid.

OMG....lockdown was the best ever.....spent weeks in a Khao Yai resort....only residents (illegal at the time)....then 14 months in BKK.......bars open everyday bar one......two months in the JW Marriott, full board, free drinks .....it was fantastic.

It wasn't a case of luck but as you're calling me a liar, GFY 🤡.

Actually, he was calling me a liar--you're off the hook!   What I find rich is he wasn't even here--yet still feels he's qualified to say we were treated 'dismally' and 'unfairly'.  That wasn't the case with me, God's truth.

Agree.  Spouse and I took a wonderful driving trip to southern Thailand, making a number of stops.  We enjoyed the trip and felt we were also helping a bit as most places had so few tourists.

I'm not sure Pattaya could get any worse and I say that with all seriousness. A friend of mine who does not seem to get much attention in Los Angeles comes to Pattaya once or twice a year, for a little TLC. He told me since last year the women are fatter, uglier, and older, and the prices have doubled for PFP. Of course like many other things in Thailand reason does not seem to apply, as tourism is down, visitors are down, and business is way down according to the gals that he spoke with, and yet prices are way up. Try to figure that one out.

That does not bode well for its future, considering how dependent that city seems to be on that segment.

I haven't been there in a very long time and I don't see the need to ever go back. I feel the same way about Phuket.

Not sure how much friction if any between Thais and Cambodians, but at Ratanakorn market today which is full of Cambodians working seemed like most customers were foreigners

Difficult to argue with that.

I was gutted recently, having trawled the bars in BKK, to find that the wife looked the youngest and most attractive (slight bias).

Someone told me many girls are not enamoured with gruelling bar-work anymore and just use apps????

Did I hurt your feelings - oh I am so sorry - not.

PS - I did not call you a liar - I said I dont believe you - because I have so much evidence to say that what you state is wrong - give me proof and I will believe you. Sorry - but the 'word' of a bloke I dont know on a sexpat forum is not enough.

Here's an example of prejudice, but kind of a mirror image to what you mentioned. In the sleepy Swiss village I stayed in when COVID-19 kicked off, my not-eve-teen-at-the-time, half-Thai progeny was name-called by other children and blamed for COVID-19 and lockdowns because "you are Chinese". It's sad that not everyone grows out of such ignorance by the time they are old enough to vote.

If you think my Thai wife was not treated badly in Australia - you are an effing idiot. They were all treated 'badly' in the west - anyone that looked Chinese - but it was because of irrational ignorant fear.  It was not a problem for us - we ignored ignorant fools.  The same as blokes I know who were stuck here and experienced the same - including Ministers blaming dirty falangs for Covid. There were many lessons from Covid - one being that most people are ignorant fools who are easily scared and offended.

Let me repeat.  GFY🤡.

Let me repeat too - ignorant fools are easily scared and offended.

Prove it - or look at all the TV/AN posts about what was happening.

Maybe you were very lucky - maybe in a remote village ? - but I dont believe you.

Maybe Thailand's Prime Minister should do a Trump (take Canada) and take control of Cambodia, extending Isaan to Vietnam.

She can't do anything. She's suspended.

I never responded - only 'verbally'.

Someone else did not like it as well.

You really do think it is all about you - dont you?

Your post shows that, yes, you haven't been to Pattaya in a 'very long time'.  The reality is that Pattaya is no longer that 'dependent' on that friend of yours and what you call 'that segment'.  If you look at the big, new development the past few years, most of it is as far as you can get from 'that segment'.  It all started with Terminal 21 but it has really accelerated from there.  And, of course, T21 is about as far as you can get from Walking Street and still be near Pattaya Beach.

Ditto for all the new hotels--most of them built in the north Pattaya area.  Centre Point Space, the huge, family-oriented resort built a couple years ago, is a good example--right across from T21.  Centre Point 3, another family resort and even bigger, is now going up in that same area.

Pattaya's newest water park is on the Darkside--also far from 'that segment'.   True also for most of the new condo development, which is mostly scattered around Jomtien, Pratamnuk, Wongamat, and Cosy Beach.

Across from T21, a wide swatch of rather decrepit old retail has been leveled and new shopping and restaurants are going up, and decidedly not aimed at 'that segment'.  A very upscale highrise condo is also planned for that area, to join the new, equally-pricey Arom Wongamat condo.

Earlier, I posted about all the new housing going up on the Darkside--which is truly staggering if you try to keep up with all of it--which I try to do--and fail.  There's quite the story there that seems to be flying under the radar.  Pattaya is definitely attracting lots of new residents not much interested in 'that segment'--I've met a number of them living in 4 different housing projects on the Darkside in the last few years.

Just a few examples.  I'm of the opinion that Pattaya would actually do even better if Walking Street was leveled and reimagined to appeal to the large numbers of new tourists, both foreign and domestic, and residents, now contributing to Pattaya's boom.

I was in Pattaya throughout and didn't find it as you described.

Yes there were some anti foreigner sentiments expressed particularly by Anutin however it had little or no real impact on those in Pattaya - unless you were as you described it "an ignorant fool" ........

The golf courses were very happy to see us

Name the course please - were they not all closed during Covid?? Except of course for the members only ultra rich courses? One bloke who also plays golf said that his course and all the others were closed.  Which one was open?

PS - Thailand is more than living in a flat in Pattaya and going to bars. I mean across all of Thailand - of course.

First this topic I believe was about Pattaya - no?

Second I don't live in a flat.

Golf - this is where you should not trust 3rd hand views and where, as you admitted you were not here, you really seem to have no idea of the reality.

Golf course around Pattaya were closed on 2 separate occasions. From memory the first time was about 5 weeks and the second occasion was much shorter - so that's about 7 weeks maximum in total in the first year. Apart from that time I must have played probably 12 or more different courses around Pattaya - up to an hour away by car.

Specific courses - Pattana, Greenwood, Pattavia, Treasure Hill, Khao Kheaw, Burapha, Bangpra, Pleasant Valley, etc etc.
