For years we have been fed the usual diet information and recommendations, such as: – cut back on red meat, eat a balanced diet (whatever that is), up your intake of fruit and vegetables and so on.......

After eating at a local South American restaurant which served some exceptional tenderloin steaks, I decided to look into the diet of the South American gaucho and was surprised at what I learned.

They lived on the land for the most part tending their beef and sometimes sheep and their diet consisted of yes, mainly beef, and sometimes sheep meat, with very little if anything in the way of fruit and vegetables – – and their average life expectancy was around 75 years which is amazing considering the diet they followed, and also tends to contradict what we think we know about diet??

So tonight I will feast upon a nice steak and a few glasses of good red wine. Cheers.

I wonder what their incidence of bowel cancer is with low fruit and veg and low fiber, probably constipated a lot

That's my most trusted YTube nutrition and diet channel.  I highly recommend his channel.  He gives excellent interpretation of  dozens of studies by pointing out their strengths and weaknesses.  His reviews of the "hot" YTube nutrition influencers are polite but to the point.

Agree, very balanced review of meta studies.  Many backed with blood work & scans to verify results. \

Why I never went in full on Keto, or believed the silly 'seed oils' are bad.  Yes, when consumed as ingredients of junk food.  But not when using moderately when cooking.

I think you were the one who posted and pointed him out to me. 👍

Yeah, we now can live longer -- letting us reach the stage where we can only babble and drool.

Every time this subject comes up, I recall the ditty:

Eat healthy

Exercise regularly

Die anyway

death is just nature's way of saying 'slow down'

New research may have found the secret to delaying chronic illness in old age

Imagine two people in their 70s. Both are active, live independently and enjoy life. But over the next 15 years, one of them develops two or three chronic illnesses – heart disease, diabetes, depression – while the other remains relatively healthy. What made the difference?

According to our new research, diet may be a key part of the answer.

In our new study, our group at the Aging Research Center at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, followed more than 2,400 older Swedish adults for 15 years.

Nothing new actually. More common sense

Life was a lot more stressful for the majority of people then, especially with no modern medicine & vaccines.  Disease killed huge proportion of the population compared to the current day.  And not forgetting war.

I personally believe that the increased hygiene and cleanliness was more of a factor than vaccines at that time.
It wasn’t until Dr. ignaz Semmelweis (1818-1865) from Hungary, discovered that handwashing with chlorinated lime solution dramatically reduced deaths.  His ideas were at first mocked and rejected.  Poor guy, he was persecuted so much that he became so frustrated and erratic that he was committed to an asylum, where he died.

He only became appreciated decades later after Pasteur and Lister proved him right.

Today, he is called “the father of infection control” and a pioneer of antiseptic procedures.

so there, my friends, is the reason for people started to live longer!
