He has ascended and become one with the universe.

  • Surprise surprise  - actually no surprise, just normal behaviour.

  • Lord Buddha would cringe if he saw what is practiced as Buddhism in Thailand.

I think you do not understand the basics of Buddhism. There's an interesting story in the Buddhist scriptures that describes the Buddha's response to insults.

In the story, a man hurls insults at Buddha, and Buddha responds by asking, "If someone offers you a gift and you refuse it, to whom does the gift belong?" When the man answers, "To the one who offered it," Buddha explains that the same principle applies to anger and insults; if he chooses not to accept them, they remain with the person who offered them.

I assume that someone who commits crime and corruption in the name of the Buddha, is equivalent to insulting the Buddha. Wouldn't you agree?

Why are these guys so protected they make catholic priests look like choir boy

Outside of the Catholic Church in the  Americas,  no one comes close to the corruption, scandals,  and immorality of Thai Buddhism. Who needs fake lakorn when you have real life crimes from politicians, police force to the monks in the Land of Scams.

It is going to be interesting, I can see this issue with monks coming into the next election.  Someone is making a promise to clean up and hold monks more responsible.

Does anyone remember the Dolce Gabana monk of about 10 years ago.

Once an issue is discovered, the sanga should be mandated legally to report the WAT and the people involved to the police for legal action.  With the monks involved, they were immediately incarcerated without bail in a police cell.  Before anyone says they are revered.  Consider that a police cell is not that much of a change from what they have at the temple.  It is quiet, gives them a mat and the solitude to meditate and pray.

But we all know it's just pretend Buddhism,  for the majority.

Yep, I know a Buddhist monk here.

I thought I could learn a few things from her, but she doesn't seem to have much knowledge about Buddhism at all. And doesn't even appear to be a decent human being.

I was disillusioned.

I acknowledge your perspective. However, it must be recognized that this applies equally to Christians, Muslims, Jews, and all other faiths. We are born human, but upon joining any religion, carefree living often ends—no alcohol, no intimacy. Yet beneath the sacred garments of these devotees lies ordinary human flesh, with its own wants, cravings, and aspirations. The world is a magnificent place, yet humanity continues to degrade it. At times, it feels as though we are born into hell, with salvation awaiting us later.

As well as crooked Monks there's fake Monks around too.  I can remember a fake Monk going around the bars at Nana asking for cash donations.
