A dramatic incident unfolded in a residential home after a 5-metre-long python fell through the ceiling of a cat room in an apparent attempt to prey on a group of pedigree Scottish Fold cats.

At around 09:00 on 5 August, rescue officers Mr Wirot Boonthai, 52, who is also a police volunteer and Ms Buppha Ampuang, 53, from the Nonthaburi 191 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre, responded to an urgent call from a resident in Bang Mae Nang Subdistrict, Bang Yai District.

Upon arriving at the two-storey house, officers discovered the massive python coiled on top of a cabinet inside a room used for housing cats. The room, located at the rear of the house, contained multiple Scottish Fold cats, two males, five females, and three kittens. Fortunately, none were harmed.

Officers believe the snake had slithered into the house from a nearby overgrown area and fallen through a gap in the ceiling, which was under renovation at the time. Using snake-catching tools, the team managed to safely loop the snake and drag it from the premises.

Ms Buppha explained that she arrived on the scene at around 07:00 after receiving the call for help. “When I saw the size of the snake, I knew I couldn’t handle it alone. I quickly called my male colleague to assist. We were afraid the snake might escape back into the ceiling, which would have made the situation far more dangerous.”

The homeowner reported that the family’s maid had first spotted the snake in the cat room that morning and immediately alerted the owner. Emergency services were then contacted.

The cats, which were kept inside an enclosure within the room, managed to flee and avoid harm. “It was pure luck they ran away in time,” the homeowner said.

Once safely contained in a sack, the python was later released back into the wild, far from residential areas, by the rescue team.

Those men are very short or that is not a 5 m snake. I estimate 3.7 m may be less.
