Three Thai soldiers were injured, one seriously, after stepping on a landmine while patrolling near the Thai–Cambodian border on the morning of 9 August.

According to the 2nd Army Region, the incident occurred at around 10:00 when troops from Company 111 were carrying out a patrol to lay barbed wire defences in the area between Don Ao and Krisana in Sisaket province. The patrol, led by Sergeant Major Thani Paha, was inspecting a route when the explosion occurred.

Sgt Maj Thani suffered the most severe injury, losing the lower part of his left ankle. Private First Class Phakphum Chaisura sustained injuries to his arm and back, while Private First Class Thananchai Kraiwong suffered concussion and a ruptured eardrum from the blast’s shockwave.

All three soldiers were evacuated to a local hospital for treatment.

Colonel Ritcha Suksuwanont, Deputy Spokesman for the Royal Thai Army, confirmed the incident and said an investigation is under way. The army is expected to issue a formal statement on the matter.
