A crash claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman while her husband sustained serious injuries when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a tree on Mitr 2 Road, heading into Udon Thani.

ย

The incident occurred on 8 August at kilometre 392 on the Udon Thani-Khon Kaen route, near Ban Rai curve in Khok Klang Subdistrict, Non Sa-at District, Udon Thani Province.

ย

Rescue workers from the Udon Thani Highway Rescue Unit, led by Mr. Wichai Panla, responded promptly after receiving a report from a passerby. At the scene, a Ford Ranger with Chaiyaphum registration was found smashed against a tree. The driver, Mr. Thawan, aged 72 from Chaiyaphum, suffered severe injuries including a broken rib piercing a lung. He was immediately treated and transferred to hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition.

His passenger, Mrs. Kamploy, 71, also from Chaiyaphum, died instantly in the crash. Her body was trapped between the seat and the tree, requiring rescue teams nearly 45 minutes to free her using hydraulic equipment.

ย

Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have suffered a momentary loss of consciousness, causing the vehicle to veer off the road at moderate speed.

ย

The couple had set out on a religious pilgrimage to make merit in celebration of Mrs. Kamployโ€™s birthday, planning to visit temples in Nong Khai and Nakhon Phanom provinces.
