A Myanmar national was brutally killed in the early hours of 13 August after being chased and attacked by a group on a pedestrian bridge in the Khlong Toei area of Bangkok.

Police from Tha Ruea station were alerted around 02:00 by a passer-by who discovered a man lying in a pool of blood on the footbridge over the Na Ranong intersection. Officers, accompanied by rescue workers, forensic teams and a Chulalongkorn Hospital pathologist, attended the scene.

The victim, estimated to be around 30 years old, was found wearing jeans, a black T-shirt with an over-shirt and trainers. He had sustained multiple deep stab wounds to the head, hands, hips and back.

Witnesses reported seeing the man running from the Khlong Toei junction, pursued by several young men armed with long wooden sticks. “It was dark, so I couldn’t see if they had knives, but they were shouting loudly in a language I didn’t understand,” said one local resident. Moments later, another group arrived on motorbikes, collected the pursuers and fled.

A nearby street vendor’s relative told police that around the same time, they saw about ten youths on five motorcycles in the area, shouting and running after someone, but were unaware a fatal stabbing had occurred.

A security guard from a nearby building said the bridge was often used by vagrants, but the victim was not a familiar face, suggesting he was from outside the area.

Pol Maj Gen Witawat Chinnakhom, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 5, confirmed no identification documents were found on the victim, only a mobile phone. He said the victim was believed to be from Myanmar, though formal identification was pending.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses, to establish the motive and whether the attack was linked to a reported fight in the area the same night. The investigation is ongoing.
