Smoke filled parts of a hotel in the heart of Bangkok on the morning of 14 August, after an electrical short circuit in the server room triggered a small fire, leaving one woman injured from smoke inhalation.

The incident was reported at 05:25, to the Phra Phuttha Yodfa Radio Centre. Fire and rescue crews from Khlong Toei Fire Station were dispatched to the hotel in Soi Sukhumvit 39, Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana district.

On arrival firefighters found smoke emanating from the first floor of the eight-storey building. The blaze was quickly brought under control within minutes, preventing any further fire or structural damage.

An inspection revealed the fire had started in the server room on the first floor due to an electrical short circuit. Only a small area was affected by the fire, but smoke had filled the server room and much of the first floor.

One female victim, reported to be a member of staff, suffered from smoke inhalation and after being given first aid at the scene, was taken to Kluaynamthai Hospital for treatment.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the fire, but confirmed that the hotel remains operational for guests.
