Police in Lopburi have arrested 50 suspects, seized 16 firearms and confiscated more than 12,000 methamphetamine pills in a sweeping crackdown on drugs, illegal weapons and organised crime networks.

The raids, codenamed Operation Fah Rung Krung Lavo (“Dawn over the City of Lavo”), were conducted on 50 targeted locations across the province, including the home of a local politician and the residence of the younger brother of a secretary to a prominent abbot.

The operation was led by Pol Gen Akkaradech Pimolsri, Special Adviser to the Royal Thai Police, with senior regional commanders in attendance at a press briefing. Police said the action was part of an urgent government policy to dismantle narcotics networks, seize illegal firearms and disrupt the activities of contract killers and criminal influencers.

Of the 50 targets:

• 33 were drug-related – leading to the arrest of 39 suspects and the seizure of 12,350 methamphetamine pills, 1.47 grams of ketamine, and 20.24 grams of crystal meth.

• 15 were firearms-related – resulting in six arrests and the seizure of 16 guns and 266 rounds of ammunition.

• 2 involved arrest warrants – both suspects were apprehended.

• 3 were other criminal cases – with three suspects detained and one black Honda Jazz seized.

Pol Gen Akkaradech said the Royal Thai Police remain committed to sustained operations against all forms of crime to ensure public safety and build trust in law enforcement. He urged members of the public to report tips via the 191 or 1599 hotlines at any time.

Reporters visiting Lopburi Provincial Police Headquarters noted that at least two meeting rooms bore the name and image of the abbot of Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, indicating they had been funded by the monk. The revelation comes amid ongoing scrutiny and legal proceedings involving the well-known temple.
